General Chat / A New Baby in the home!
« on: March 29, 2011, 06:53:30 AM »
Good Morning, fellow Chinchilla lovers. I recently went onto Hoobly.com and once again lucked out on this site. I met a breeder from Middletown NY who was selling a black velvet chinchilla. He cannot breed him as he has a fur chewing issue. Needless to say, I drove to Syracuse last evening to pick him up and he is a sweet doll...gorgeous..very fluffy. Yes, he has some furr chewed but I am hoping maybe we can help him to cease his problem eventually. He only cried a bit on the way home and last evening. He ate and took a nice bath immediately after transplanting him into his new home. He even took a shredded wheat from me this morning! I will post pics soon (do not want to be snapping a camera at him this early...we are giving him time to settle in and relax.) I have read quite a bit on the furr chewing and realize that it is hereditary..he definitely does not seem to have any health issues.

Anyway, we love him immensely already and have welcomed his sweet little self into our Chin home. Oh, the hubby named him Burbank..not quite sure what I think of that name..think I may have to argue that point.! rofl :2funny: ::nod::

Mine LOVE Jean's goji berries and they also like Dandelion Drops...but I am very careful not to over do...Definitely careful about severe moderation. I think at first, I was tooooooo generous (ya know they have that sweet little way about them..stand on their hind legs, give you the chinny eye and their little paws holding onto the bars...awwwww) However, I have learned to say NO!...One and that is it! Clever little buggers...using their cuteness..very persuasive.... rofl....You just have to remember..too much of a good thing is NOT good!

LOL... :2funny:..each one is so different..All 4 of mine are okay with being held..just not for long..they get squirmy and I think overheated and anxious. The boys are a bit more relaxed but they have been with me more than a year longer than the girls. It is fun to let them out at exercise time (boys separate from girls)..because they will jump all over me and sit on my shoulders or under my neck. I love to observe the different behaviorisms of each of them...girls are so much wilder than the boys... ::silly::..I swear I need to get some sort of night camera and keep it in their room..just to get a glimpse of what they do..from the looks of the cage and everything they each have to play with..I think the girls believe they are in some WWF arena with the way things are tossed around the cage... The boys are sloppier definitely but a bit more calmer and just plain lazier than the girls. The girls are WILD Women! I just love them!!  :2funny:

Sending your newest addition lots of love and hugs...for her to heal quickly...and be healthy and happy...People never cease to amaze me. Some are completely heartless, soul-less and pitiful. Hurting animals breeds horrible KARMA. I hope your new baby will thrive with you and your family.   ;)

Breeding 101 / Re: Something funny

How sweet and very observant. It is interesting to see how small children relate to our chins and how the Chins react to children. Our 4 year old daughter is "in charge" of snacktime/treat-time at night. The chins are so very careful to turn their faces sideways and reach to her fingers to take a treat from her...never once have they bitten her...They are as gentle with her as she is with them. ::silly:: :)

AND, I completely agree with the statement that Chins are just like kids...they SO are!! especially with new toys or when I revamp their cages to shake things up a bit!  ;D

Oh that is so adorable! My daughter and I also sing to our 4 chins.....as well as do a little dance...to the tune of morning it goes like this: "A chinny chin chin..a winny win win..We're  saying Good Morning to the chinny chin chin" and then of course before bed is "We're saying good night to the chinny chin chin"... :2funny: I must say they watch very closely and probably think we are completely out of our minds...but it is all in good fun... ::silly::..My daughter is only 4 so we are a couple of goof balls! :D

Cages / Re: Has anyone used a hampster cage as a chin cage?
« on: September 10, 2010, 09:11:09 AM »
oooohhh..I love the corner cage!! wow, now I can fit another cage in the chin room if I must! My one cage for the boys is a Super Pet ferret cage with the tubes on top and they love it. (more so than their igloo now which they don't use but only for throwing and tipping over playtime  ;D ::silly::)...I am lucky as they do not chew on the plastic, however, I have started to eliminate the plastic shelving and replace with wooden ledges I have bought from tjschinchillasupplies....HINT HINT ::silly:: :2funny: Thank You for the cage info...pretty cool!  ;)

Unless of course it is only used for when you are cleaning or revamping their permanent big cage... ;D

In my opinion, NOT big enough...I have two per cage as I would not have 1 chin alone anyway. Does not look like a bad cage, but maybe I am just biased as mine are wicked spoiled  ::silly::...will be interested to hear others comments.  ::shrug::

Chit Chat / NYS Fair
« on: August 30, 2010, 08:05:48 AM »
I finally went to the New York State Fair..1st time ever and had a ball. Crowded but definitely an experience one should have. The only thing that bothers me and that bothers me at every fair I attend...Why can't they just stop having games where the prize is a goldfish in a plastic bag..it is so wrong! I wanted to rescue them all...this is such a cruel thing to do. My daughter has a good size tank and she has had her 5  goldfish for a while now and they are thriving..I just could not take a chance and bring one home from a place like that...they probably are not that healthy. I just think it should no longer be allowed. There is my complaint for the day! ::tickedoff::
