First of all, Welcome to the club! I am sure you will get LOTS of great advice on this sight from true chin lovers.
Congrats on your new chin adventure you are about to embark upon. They are wonderful little friends.

2 of my cages do have the plastic shelves...one of which I have mostly replaced with wood as I was concerned about the chewing of the plastic based on issues I have heard on this sight. Fortunately, I have watched this very closely and have not had any problems with the chewing at this point but I do believe that is because I have provided them with so  many activities between loads of toys of all shapes and sizes, hammocks, tubes, igloos, tunnels and exercise wheels.

I also change around their mansions a lot to keep them guessing and interested. They are like little kids and love to be surprised and love new things! My daughter and I even have goofy songs we sing to them when we go to bed at night and get up in the morning or to just mess with them...They sort of stare at us (who knows what they are thinking ;D rofl) but they love the attention.

Again. good luck with everything..you wont regret your choice of pet friend.

PS..Good Job with the baby squirrel!

 :D ::silly::

I used to have a problem with Super Pet also...and that being the ball bearing would get screwed up and I would have puddles of water in their cage after the water would entirely leak out of the bottle. That was highly annoying since my fuzz butts detest getting their feet or anything else wet. I agree with Jean as Lixits have been great. No leak problems and no problems with chewing either.  ::silly:: ::nod:: I purchesed mine from Jean's awesome store!..Check it out!

General Chat / weird scents makes for a ticked off chin!

I am basically on a set schedule with all 5 of my furry buddies...so at approximately 8:00PM, it is chin treat time. On some occasions, my daughter's goldfish will get fed at the same time. The other evening, I fed the goldfish their flakes and then proceeded to feed Kingston (a black velvet) his cheerio...WOW...he must have smelled the goldfish flakes and did a rolling click clacking sound (thoroughly disgusted with me!  ::tickedoff::). Once I washed my hands and then tried again, he was fine but it was so funny..they are all such balls of furry individualistic personalities...I LOVE it!  ;D rofl

General Chat / Re: Chinchilla Names
« on: July 29, 2011, 07:55:38 AM »
I like all the names mentioned..I would have to say that the task of naming the little buggers comes naturally once you have the little guy or little girl in your hands and you look into their eyes and at their face..They are all so incredibly unique! Who knows...once you have chosen your chin..you may not go with any of the names you have chosen!
Mine are as follows: Males: Rip Snortin Roo Bee Doo (Roo for short), Gizmo and Kingston...Females as follows: Bella Luna and Lucy Liu...could not have named them before I saw them....Best of Luck on your chinnie quest!

Health / Re: Tired ness
« on: July 25, 2011, 06:24:49 AM »
My first question would be "Is it too warm where he has his free play?" I can only let mine out for about 20-30 minutes at a time as they seem to get overheated from all of the excitement of exploring and perhaps a bit tired.

At this time of year, I cannot let them out in the bathroom (the only room I can really chin proof), as the temperatures are close to 100 so they remain in their room with their new air conditioner.

I will be curious to see everyones responses.

Oh, and is your baby at all overweight? I have read that will affect their behaviour for sure.  ::silly::

I would NEVER give any of my chins a water bath for fear of bacterial growth as their furr is so thick!  ::scaredspeachless:: Besides, there is NO need for that with their dust bath. I am not saying anything bad if someone else does but I would not recommend..it really is NOT necessary. I have never read anywhere where a water bath is recommended nor have I ever known anyone to do so! ::silly:: :::(((
I would be interested at seeing what the very capable breeders on this sight have to say about this!
