General Chat / Yet another Chinchilla sighting on the web.

Hello, I haven't been on as much lately, but always think of you guys when I see chinchillas in the media, figured you would get a kick out of a few things.
Not sure if i've Posted it before but been seeing a couple flash animation's that feature chinchillas

http://www.weebls-stuff.com/songs/magical+trevor+3/ is a little repeating cartoon with chinchillas, though it kind of gets off track towards the end I don't see chinchillas in this medium often.

The other one was actually found in a flash game, which seems to me even rarer than chinchilla cartoons.

on a flash games site called kongregate there was also a chinchilla game where you pick outfits for a pet chinchilla, which i haven't tried.
Figured id share these things, as I'm all for chinchillas becoming a bit more recognized in media

General Chat / Missing Fur

while letting my chinchillas in thier bath i noticed that Squeak had a thin patch of fur on his forehead, after a closer look it seems that he is missing a patch of fur and there is skin visible about the size of the tip of my pinky. i was wondering what are some causes of this and if there is something i should do(they are shedding alot, i assumed because its summer and its slightly warmer inside, about 75-77 in thier room high temperature). i havent heard them fighting since they were 1 month old so i dont know if one of them grabbed some fur out of the other.

General Chat / That New Wheel Smell

just got a new wheel for Christmas for the chins, a 15" aluminum wheel, and they were terrified of it, Pip was actually shaking

. So i took some advice from the forums and threw some dust bath in the bottom of it, and sure enough, after the bath was all out, they started using it

General Chat / Hammock Surprise

I was in another room one day when i heard a noise from the chin room, the usuall stuff being moved across the cage noise, and when i came over to check on em, i was greeted with the sight of a chinchilla tail sticking out of the hammock, with a bulge in the middle. Squeak had ripped the bottom layer of fabric's corner open, and crawled inside! I took a photo and made sure it was allright, i was thinking he was stuck till he turned around, stuck his head out, and went back inside. Looks like ill need a new hammock. ill post the picture when i get back home.

Quite possibly the strangest thing they have done since ive had them.

Spaghetti

is that something they can even eat? its youtube so i don't trust what i see there (one lady actually had 2 videos showing her chin "swimming"

the owner took the video down after many people (not so calmly) told her what she had done. anyway, just wanted to post this to see if its something i should add to my list of things they can or cannot eat

General Chat / Chinchilla Antics

i looked around on general chat and didnt see anything similar (maybe i didnt look hard enough?) but id like to know what some of everyones chinchillas do that makes them laugh, could be tricks, playtime habits or just plain cute/funny things they do.

to start off i love when one wall jumps when let out to play (which i assume is pretty common) im not sure if anyone else's do this but mine sometimes just shake their head at random then hop about 5 or 6 feet like a gerbil (with just their back legs) then jump straight up in the air, then stop and look at you. Lastly for the playtime antics i laugh when they jump straight up in the air and land 180 degrees from where they started facing. as for just plain cute things, i like how they sometimes sleep on their sides on the marble with their little feet sprawled out and their tails hanging out of the cage. sorry if that was a little long winded.

General Chat / What Treats are Acceptable?

I've heard of raisins as the standard treat for chinchillas, and that they like unsweetened shredded wheat, and according to youtube they like unleavened bread Chinchillas and Bread, and was wondering what else do they like? Is any unsweetened cereal good for them? (cheerios, chex, puffed rice?). Also, dad gave my 2 chins half of a frozen grape which they 'shared' half of (more like take a bite, get it stolen by the other, and back again)

Guestbook / new guy says hello

Hello, I'm a new chin owner from Nebraska. Just got 2 boys July 1st 2006 at 6 weeks old (they are brothers and I didn't want to split them up

). So far my favorite part is when they make a loud noise (flinging a chew block into their hut or something) then when you turn around they are just watching you as if nothing happened. edit. oh yea, suppose I should post a picture of them. (its from a cell phone so kinda grainy) Pip and Squeak
