General Chat / Training to be held by the tail?
« on: February 08, 2009, 03:16:17 PM »
Twizzler, my chinchilla, is a baby. Well... over 3 months old. My old chinchilla, that died, he could be held by the tail to be groomed. Twizzler was never trained to do so, and wriggles when I try. Also, I can't get a good hold on him, to sucssesfully look at his teeth, without hurting him. I don't want to lose all of his trust with one dumb move. Any suggestions? How do you train them to do that? Please help!

Q & A / Plastic?
« on: February 08, 2009, 03:10:36 PM »
Hi! When we got the cage for our new chinchilla, we bought a guinea pig cage. It is made of plastic, but only the bottom part. I check it every two days to make sure that there are no bite marks. He doesn't chew on it, only maybe one or two... but no more. Is this sae? I didn't no about not wanting plastic around them until just a little bit ago. Is it okay? Thanks a bunch!

Q & A / Wanting a dust bath?
« on: February 08, 2009, 03:01:19 PM »
My chinchilla, Twizzler, he has been doing wonderful. I watch his habits and things, to make sure that they're not changing. Well... recently, he's been digging in his chips, and putting his head down, almost like he wants to roll over. To make sure that there wasn't a problem, I gave him a dust bath, just to make sure he CAN roll, if he wanted too. He can, but he continues doing this. Also, I see him wiping his mouth with his paw a lot. Another thing that kind o worried me, was I caught him chewing on his bedding. (wood chips) I thought that maybe he didn't have enough to chew on. I gave him his favorite- a toilet paper roll. I haven't seen him chew on his bedding so far, but the other problem keeps going on. Also, I almost never catch him sleeping! Even in the day, he doesn't seem restless, just not tired and giddy or excited. Any ideas?

Q & A / Boxes safe to chew?
« on: January 13, 2009, 05:30:26 PM »
Hello! I put a small cardboard box into my baby chin's cage. He started chewing it, and I wanted to make sure that it's okay. There is no ink on it, except for some white. Is it okay, or should I take it out?  :-\

General Chat / What type of treats do you feed your chinnies?
« on: January 13, 2009, 05:01:46 PM »
Hey! I just wanted to hear what everybody had to say about the treats. Some put up a good argument that raisins have too much sugar, and some think otherwise. I would like to see if anybody had any treat tips. Also, if you chose other, feel free to write what you feed as treats! ;)

General Chat / My chin died unexpectedly...
« on: December 31, 2008, 12:43:31 PM »
Ever since my chinchilla died, I have been trying to figure out why. We only had him for a week. The breeder said it may be because we had a different water bottle, than he's used to. He didn't drink that much, but he still did drink. He was only 4, so he didn't die of old age. He was fine the day before that, but when I woke up one morning, he was laying in a slump. He squeaked when you picked him up, but he didn't sound in pain. When we (my family and I) got home, he was dead. I just want to know, so that I don't do the same thing wrong, with the new chinchilla I'm getting. If you have any questions, or guesses, please post here! Your help will be wonderful!

If chinchillas could talk, what would he be thinking? (Whoever wrote the other one, don't be mad at me for copying!)

Health / Treat question!
« on: December 31, 2008, 11:47:24 AM »
I am getting a chinchilla from a lady that doesn't feed him any treats at all. I would like to train him to do certain things, like crawl unto my arm, or return to the cage after playtime. It is a baby. (only 10 weeks old) I read that you should only give babies like 1 treat a day. Will this be okay? I don't want to hurt him. Or do you use something different, instead of treats?  :(

« on: December 31, 2008, 07:26:07 AM »
Hi! Umm. If you post a message, all of you information is to the left of your post. Most people have pictures on the left. How do I do that? I'm new.

(If you want to move this, that's fine, because I'm not sure if it goes here anyway!) Thanks a bunch!!!  ;)
