Anyone Hear about THIS?!

So I visited a Petco today, and noticed a sign on a chinchilla cage stating that according to New Mexico Law, they could NO LONGER sell chinchillas in pet shops. I asked one of the employees if she knew WHY, and she said it had to do with import & export, and endangered species.... apparently they are considering certain animals endangered now, and chinchillas are amongst them! Not sure if it's just in New Mexico or nation wide, or what ...... but could be good news! Means people will HAVE to go through a breeder to get a hold of them now, and for breeders that means you can potentially make more money off them.

Anyone see/hear anything about this in your area?

I hadn't heard anything about that...I just hope that it doesn't make it harder for breeders to ship them then. It would be ideal to not have them sold in pet stores though. That would be good news indeed!

In my area they are illegal but I still have them. They are exotic but I never new why they were illegal. Just about 10 minutes from where I live in Tecumseh they are legal which I don't get.

That is absolutely stupid if that is truly the reason.  Pet stores get chinchillas from american breeders already.  Wild chinchillas have been protected for years.  I wonder if they are just not letting them cross state lines anymore there.

Yes, I do.  ;) I had them BEFORE they were illegal.
