Congrats!  I remember when my first nephew was born.  We were all sooooooooooo excited!!  He is now almost 19 and starting college...it all goes so fast!  Enjoy your new roll as an Aunt!

I read to bake the branches at 250F for an hour, so that is what I do.  I also wash them off with a vinegar and water mix before baking.

Wow!  She has some nerve!  Which part of "don't breed her!" didn't she understand?  Unfortunately someone WILL pay $150 for chins w/o pedigrees.  Hopefully they won't breed them!

To many people will check and then not make sure it goes all the way back in ...

That is one thing I made sure of.  But I will use neosporin the next time just as a safety measure against infection!  Thanks for the tip!

Male chins should be checked on a regular basis

Thanks Jo Ann.  I just checked the boys and they are A-ok.  I checked out the web site showing the hair ring and how to check for it...it helped ALOT!
Gadget and Gizmo were NOT pleased...Gadget gave my daughter (she was holding him while I checked) a nip to tell her to BACK OFF!  ::taunt::  Gizzie just wiggled so much that finally we put him in a dish towel to hold him still and sang "rock-a bye- baby" ::nod::.  For some reason this calmed him down and he was checked in a flash.

Board Requests & questions / Posting pics
« on: August 14, 2006, 12:53:59 AM »
I'm sure this has been addressed before, but I couldn't find the post, so here goes again.  How do I get the little picture of my chins on the sides of my posts?  I tried to change my profile but it didn't add the pic.  HELP!

What would be the first sign that there is a problem??? My boys clean themselves but not excessively...at least not that I have noticed.

General Chat / Re: WHAT IS A GOOD TEMP FOR CHINS?
« on: August 13, 2006, 11:53:13 PM »
I am like a chin too.  I cannot tolerate the heat!  Usually it is quite comfortable here in Western NY, but a few weeks ago it got almost to 100!  The chins and I were living in the air conditioned bedroom along with all 3 of my kids!  I am so much happier now that the temps are back in the low 80's during the daytime and 50-60 at night!!!  The chins are happier as well.  During the heatwave we had to put them in a smaller cage to bring them in the bedroom and they were missing their chin condo!!! ::sadtears::

An actual breeder could be cool.
I am in the Rochester NY area

Hi Gizmo!  Great name...one of my chinnies is also a Gizmo, tho we call him Gizzie ::silly::.
I am also in the Rochester, NY area.  About an hour south.  I got my chinnies from a friend, but before I got them I looked up breeders and there are some in Buffalo and Syracuse.  Google chinchilla breeders in Rochester, NY.  Then once you have some names maybe these ladies can tell you if they are a good place to get a chin from or what ???? to ask before buying one.  Good luck...you will love having a chinnie!!!
