General Chat / Babies Finally!!!! :)

So today I heard squeking when I was feeding my snake, and turned real quick, and noticed a tail coming from under my females stomach!!  I got a lil frieked out, but once I got close to the cage Sasha jumped outa the way and there it was... one super cute baby! Then outa the corner of my eye I spotted another one jumping into some ferret toys just laying in the room! It had jumped outa the cage and musta been squeeking to find her momma!   It came to my hand right away and I put it right back with its mom, and was so stunned I didn't know what else to do but take pics and call my fiance!
After I calmed down and reality hit me, I weighed them (28 & 33 grams) and put the 2 babies and their mom in a smaller cage with smaller bars!
After adding in the gestation length, it looks like it HAS to be babies of Gizmo! WOOHOO Way to go!!     
So now I have 2 babies, and I have been already planning for a few weeks to go pick up 2 females from a friend because she is moving and pets are not allowed! So we are fully stocked!

So I finally got one of my STO's! I have been like a kid in a candy store and cannot wait till I get the female!
Here are some pics of the first introduction to our house! He even bit me! LOL!
Yesterday he ate mealworm beetles off my hand, and today he was licking fruit puree off my fingers!

Health / Rat Poison!!!! :(

One of my chinchillas ate 4 bites of rat poison (D-CON)!!!! I callled a few poison control places, and looked online, and the only thing I found was to feed Vitamin-K!  I just sent my grandma to the store to get it, but how much should I feed them, and since I dunno which on ate it, can I feed them all a lil just to be sure

General Chat / getting 2 new chins today!

So since Ive had Gizmo for quite a while now, I figured its time to get another! This time it is a 4yr old mom, and her 9month old baby! The lady Im geting them from is extremely busy, and barely has time to answer my emails, but I am going to prod her today to try to get the sex of the baby! I would hate for it to be a boy, and her to come pregnant already! Anyways... Im super excited, and ready! Im startin the cleanup of my pet room today, and gonna baby gizmo so he doesnt feel left out! I dunno how chinnies are, but I know my ferrets sometimes get depressed when i bring home a new rescue ferret!

On the way home from getting them, I plan on stopping at a pet smart in a rural town, because last time they sold me a brand new ferret cage being sold for $200 for only $50. I had brought in Gizmo with the cage he was given to me in (I had already planned on makng him a custom cage), and the manager came out and said he would just sell it for $50 since noone buys them, and since it would cost more then $50 to buy supplies to make a new one! (BTW: this has become my favorite "go-to" store for ANYTHING pet related, and I dont mind spending alot there, since they have EXCELLENT customer service!)

Well, I gotta get back to cleaning, sooo wish me luck!!
Ill post pics once I get them both situated and they are adjusted to my house!

Q & A / Pumice stone as Lave ledge??

So my girlfriend brought home a Pumice stone last night to clean the BBQ pit last night! Once I seen it I started wondering if it is the same material as a lava ledge?? My local pet store has been out of the ledges for over a week, and the lady said it was basically just a pumice stone! 
My girlfriend also said they sell them as foot scrubs for callous feet! (she has straight rhino hoofs! haha lol... dont tell her I said that!)     

So the question is... can I just get a pumice stone and attatch it to the cage so he can use it as a ledge??

Q & A / Checking chins teeth?

Ok, so ive been reading that their teeth should be a yellowish color, But how do I go about checking Gizmo's teeth?? Ive only had him for 4 days, and I dont wanna make him mad at me, and not wanna come to me (he's starting to trust me ALOT more, and now hops on my hands when I open the bottom door, and hold my hands out flat!).... So whats the appropriate way to check with out stressing him out, or getting him mad at me??

General Chat / Home prepped treats??

So I have a dehydrator, and am home all day, so I figured If there are treats that I can make myself, then i might as well!
I was thinking like dried apples, strawberries, roses from the garden, or anything like that... What do you guys think would be good, but healthy for Gizmo??

Other Pets / A house full of "exotics"!!

Since im new around the block I thought I would share some pics of my pets!
So here goes .....
I have a Bufo Alvarius named Kermit, he is roughly 4years old!

A Hedgehog named Samson, and he is only 6 months old!

Here is Samson acting like the Karate Kid

2 Ferrets named Jerret (the sable colored one), and Flapjack (the lighter colored one), and my girlfriend holding them!

I will be getting another Ferret this weekend, he is another rescue, just like all my pets! And he is special needs, as he is blind!

And then of course my new chinchilla Gizmo!

Q & A / New to Chins, and have a few questions!

Ok, so I just adopted a male Chin from a home that didnt have enough time for him! He is a beautiful Standard grey! And after a day at my house, he has completely opened up, and has jumped on my hands ate off them, and even came out to play in the room! This morning I cleaned his cage, and took out all the carefresh that was in there, and replaced it with Pine bedding, but while I was putting it in, he jumped down and started chewing/eating it! So I immediately put a layer of carefresh on top (i only had a lil bit left) and then threw a lil bit of Timothy Hay on top, which he immediately began to munch on instead of the pine!
Im enclosing a pic of the pine bedding I used, and hopefully someone can tell me soon if its ok to use! If not I have some compressed newspaper pellets that I use for my ferrets litter trays! Is that ok to use also! If not I can totally go pick up some carefresh, Ive just never been a big fan of it!
