North East USA / rehoming 2 chinchillas-cincinnati, IN, KY area
« on: March 24, 2017, 07:37:05 AM »
I am possibly looking to re-home two great chinchillas. It pains me to write this. My husband and I were blessed with twins last year. This have been really crazy. My husband takes care of the animals in the morning and I take care of them in the evening. We did make it through first crazy 3 months. I thought once the babies were a bit older I would be able to spend more time with the chinchillas. That has not been the case and I will be going back to work in the late summer. I know I really won't have time then. I want to make sure the chinchillas have a good home. We let them out once a day and they gets treats and chew toys. The problem with re-homing pets is you never know if they will be cared right or if it is better to just keep them. I am still not sure what is best.

They are both male and are standard gray. Pogo is 8 and Noel is 4. They had a check up when we moved 2 years ago and they were both healthy.

They have a big cage with wood shelves and a saucer. Some of the shelves need to be replaced. They also have a play pen.

Let me know if you are interested and I can give you more details.

« on: March 16, 2015, 12:10:52 PM »
We hope to get pregnant very soon. Once I have a baby, I would like to put the chinchillas in the basement. I we a dehumidifier we run in the basement. Would it be safe for them to live in the basement? I have read mixed things online.

General Chat / chin pees on all the shelves....
« on: March 09, 2014, 01:50:24 PM »
I got a baby chin in December and he pees everywhere in their cage.  In the hay bowl, on the wooden shelves, on the saucer.... My other one just pees on the fleece. Is this normal? I plan on changing out the shelves.

Health / Snowie has bronchitis, any advice
« on: August 27, 2013, 08:13:36 AM »
Snowie has bronchitis. He is very malnutritioned. He is on meds and special food that my parents have to feed him 4 times a day. I did it twice with my dad yesterday and Snowie wasn't thrilled about it. He is allowed to eat anything chinchilla safe foods that we will eat. His throat is soo sore though that he doesn't eat on his on yet. He barley drank any water last night.

Any suggestions on how to get him to drink or eat? He is on oxbo cridical care food and on antibacteria meds.

I feel bad that It took me this long to knotice something was wrong with him. HE still seemed pretty much like him self and was wanting to come out for play time and eat his bedtime treat except for sunday night. I knew something was wrong yesterday morning when he had trouble getting out of his cage.

A week ago he had trouble getting down from there hide a way house, but then by the next morning he was acting him self so I didn't think anything of it.

I have another chinchilla also, so when the water and food is being drank and ate, and they are both acting like themselfs its hard to tell something is wrong.

I hope the meds kick in and he starts to eat.

My other chincilla is still himself and eatting and drinking.

Does anyone know how contagious bronchitis is? My husband and I are sanatizing all the chinchillas things tonight.

How chinchillas catch it?

Thanks,
Steph

Other Pets / apples safe for dog
« on: July 09, 2012, 07:13:08 AM »
Are apples safe for dogs to eat. My dog weighs about 7 lbs maybe. After we eat the apple, she likes to eat a little bit of it. I wasn't sure if that was safe for her. She hasn't gotten sick from it yet.

Chit Chat / laid off from work
« on: July 02, 2012, 07:48:25 AM »
I recently got laid off of work. I was quit a shock. I lost my health insurance the day I got laid off. The only positive thing is that I can apply for unemployment. I am getting married on October. We were just about to book our honeymoon, and then this happened. We are still going to go on our honeymoon. We are going to Italy. Im not as excited about it as i was before since it is going to an expensive trip and I may or may not have a job by then. I may not have vacation days yet.  I'm lucky that my parents are paying for the wedding. I hoping to find a career, not just another job. I know there is no good time for anyone to loose a job. So far, the only interviews Iv had are for sales jobs. I just want something that has a stable income and I enjoy.

« on: July 02, 2012, 07:39:15 AM »

It says it has wheat flour, wheat middlings, flaked oats, sugarm soybean oil, flaked dried carrots raisins. The other one is a super pet brand. Its natural lots o loops. It is made from loofah, wicker and corn husk.

Other Pets / dog eating cat poop
« on: August 08, 2011, 09:57:06 AM »
My puppy likes to eat cat and chinchilla poop. I was wondering if anyone's dog does this or how to get her to stop. My bf keeps the cats litter box pretty clean but there is going to still be stuff in it.

General Chat / making cage more stable
« on: July 22, 2011, 06:52:27 AM »
i know i have a picture of my cage somewhere on here but its prob easier to post a new picture. I bought this cage used. Its prob 4 ft high or higher. Whats holding the connecting pieces are plastic clips. A wire piece is placed on top of another and on one side the clips aren't holding well. I also want to put wooden shelves but i want to fix the cage first. Its a super pet cage i belive. Any ideas? I'll try to post a picture later.

Other Pets / litter box training a dog
« on: July 13, 2011, 08:38:26 AM »
I'm going to be moving into my bf house in a few months or sooner. We both work full time can't really come home on your lunch break. My 6 lb puppy will be at home all day. I know she can hold it for 6 hrs with out going in the house. But 9 hrs or so is a long time. I want her to be able to drink and eat if she wants to also. My friend may be able to watch her for a day or so and I may take her to a dog day care for a a day. its just $5 a day! I live in ohio, and she isn't an outside dog and if she was its rare that it would be good weather to leave a dog outside all day.

The lady that gooms her said that we should get a litter box and put dirt in it and have that in the house. Has anyone tried this? Or the dog litter box? she didn't use puppy pads when I was house training her. Any other ideas or how to trian her to use a litter box? He also has 2 cats that are litter box trained.

THanks!
