General Chat / Garlic Skins?
« on: May 05, 2014, 05:33:32 AM »
I keep finding pickle has picked up a bit of garlic/onion skin and eating it!!! You know the outside but that's dry and crispy? Is that normal?? Can they eat that? I take it away from her but somehow she keeps ending up with it I think it must be where I pull something out the fridge and it falls out!!!
Just wasn't sure if anyone else's chins do this!? Or if she's just a bit weird!!

It makes me wonder about when people who say chins dont need to come out of the cage for more than 15 - 30 minutes a day.

General Chat / Chin Aggression
« on: May 01, 2014, 10:58:03 AM »
Hi guys... I've been through this time and time again about getting another chin and whether pickle is happy or not but this morning I've let her out and she hid behind the couch again. So I pulled it out and tried to get her out I wasn't trying to get her in her cage or anything and as I put my hand down when she was down the side of the couch she went for me. She's done this before when I've had her backed into a corner by accident I know chins get aggressive when backed into a corner which is why I never ever "chase" her back into her cage but this time her teeth caught me and drew a tiny tiny bit of blood.
What do I do??! She didn't really have a reaction after that I think she knew she'd gone too far and I sat on the floor and after much coaxing she eventually came to me and is now acting pretty normal (sitting on my lap briefly, running round generally being a bit mental!)
Should I have told her off and been aggressive back so she's not "dominating me"?? The last couple of days she hasn't been that happy I've noticed she's been sitting in the same spot in her cage right in the corner and the other night she got out by mistake and I was late for work so I was chasing her round te room to get her back in do u think she's still reacting from that!!? I know chins can hold a grudge!!!! I've thought time and time again about getting another one to keep her company when she is alone while I work but right now Christmas coming up it's the worst timing I just can't fit it in. I would never ever re home her she means soo much to me I will forgo anything to spend time with her but it's just when I work so much that she is alone.
But if she does this again how do I react? I would have put her straight in her cage but I've never been able to so this it's always been on her terms that she goes back usually the dust bath gets her back in and she runs straight in herself.
Has anyone else had this ever before?? I would hate for her to turn into a "bitey" chin she is so lovely when she's in a good mood she's is perfectly handleable!!
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!!
Thanks

General Chat / Bar Biting
« on: May 01, 2014, 10:42:28 AM »
Hi guys,

Just asking for some advise and tips please. My 11 year old Chinchilla Quey always bar bite and now she keeps giving herself gum n mouth injuries. She is on her own like she always have been, her cage as plenty of enrichment and hiding places and she gets to come out to play every night. When she goes back into her cage after her play she will still do it. I have put toys in the places she does it but doesn't seem to work.

Any suggestions would be great

Thanks

General Chat / Nesting?
« on: May 01, 2014, 09:50:47 AM »
Hi guys, has anyone had any of their chins show signs of "nesting" or anything? Just wondering because I've got a blanket that's really wooly and lately whenever I've been with it on the couch pickle loves to cuddle up under it with me (sooo cute!!) But once I noticed her chewing or biting at it with her teeth!!? She didn't seem to be eating it... But just kept biting it so I panicked and stopped her as I thought she was gonna ingest the wool... But I mentioned it to a friend at work and she said maybe she's nesting like small animals like hamsters do? Could she be doin this? I just noticed while she was on the couch with me a second ago that she was doin it with a fluffy cushion I have.. So I took it away as I was scared again she was going to ingest it.. And then she started doing it on the couch cover (I have like a throw on the couch as it's a horrible looking couch!) and that's not even fluffy! So it's not just fluffy things!
Do u think I should stop her in case she ingests some fibres? Or shall I leave her? Maybe I should have something in her cage she can make a best with? She has a nesting ball but it doesn't have anything in it!
Just thought I'd ask!! She might be the odd one out! She is a bit weird! But I wouldn't have her any other way!!

General Chat / Peanut And Pickle Weight Difference
« on: May 01, 2014, 09:44:45 AM »
I've been wondering about their weights for some time now but it is quite difficult to weigh Pickle, as soon as he knows I'm up to something he won't comply! :D Where as Peanut sees a treat and won't get off the scales.
I personally think that Pickle could put on some weight (he isn't horribly boney, he just feels quite fragile) and Peanut could lose some.

How how would you go about that? I can't feed them less, because pickle would suffer, and I can't feed them more because peanut would eat too much.

These are their weights, as you can see there is quite a big gap:

Pickle: 565g
Peanut: 815g
