« on: September 16, 2011, 11:04:01 PM »
Im posting this in memory of Loki, my daddy chinchilla who passed away in july during the huge heat wave we had. You were my second chinchilla and the sweetest sillyist little boy ive ever seen. Im sorry you didnt get to live to see your baby he looks jsut like you.

For Mini and Percy who were stillborn due to mumma having high stress and my own failure to realize she was pregnant. Im sorry you didnt get a chance to live and i promise to take good care of your brother Modi and you mumma Murry.

RIP my babys I love you.

Well where its doesnt appear to be her teeth im not sure =o i just know the two times murry got like that the first time was becasue she broke a tooth chewing on the bar of her cage (split right down the middle and half snapped off) and the second time was when i gave her her firs lava ledge, she powered through the thing swallowed alot of it and it gave her a upset tummy so shed eat half a pellet and put the rest back =/ i had to fed her critical care for a wile to get her weight back up.

So heres the thing =) Murry is a black velvet. Loki, modis daddy, was a ebony white. Modi looks like his daddy so does that make him a ebony white as well or just a regular mosaic? I put a picures of Loki below to show how close they look =) i have pictures of him as a baby too from the breeder.

My chinchilla gave birth the other day (Her first live birth) She had 2 kits, one still born (the obvious older of the two) and one very much alive and obviously a premie. Moms fine jsut very tired and the living one is a little boy im calling Modi, I called my vet (who doesnt really work with chinchillas) and asked what i should do because modis eyes arent open. He said try rubbing them with a qtip dipped in warm water gently then try to get them open. if you cant then leave him he'll be fine. I want to know what you all would suggest i do. Hes getting around fine with his eyes closed to my surprise. He finds his way to momma and is eating and i got my sisters scale and he weighs 41.5 grams and he runs around the cage like he can see 0.o even climbed the mesh and purched on a wood ledge about 3 inches up that id forgotten to remove from the cage. Ive done my research on kits but cant find anything on premies =( so should i listen to my vet or should i try to get his eyes open again? I have pictures if it helps.
