Q & A / Just adopted two 8 week old chins
« on: January 28, 2012, 01:37:48 AM »
Ok so ive owned chinchillas before and i still have a 3 year old that is my baby girl, but when i saw these two up for adoption on craigslist and that the woman only wanted $70 for both of them i jumped. So i have them home now with their new cage all set up and i remember when ive introduced babies to adults before(through the cage bars no actual contact) the adults have always sniffede and tryed to nip and the babies always cried out. Neither of the girls do this when i hold them up for murry to inspect them =/ i dont understand it. The only sounds ive heared from either of them are when evie sits in the corner and squeaks after i give her a treat (about a third of a rasin) Also the girls seem very small for 8 weeks, granted i know chinchillas can become pregnent more then once at a time so i figure evie is a few weeks younger because of her size but in any case i was wondering if any of you can tell me what i should do about the girls not crying at murry when she inspects them through the cage and suggest if i should get the girls vitamins to help where their so small? Also i can post picture if need be.

My baby chinchilla passed away a little over a hour ago. He would have been 8 days old at noon. He wasnt eating enough and became dehydrated. We believe he may also have been sick in some way because of how quickly he passed.
Rest in peace Modi Dustbunny =(

Im trying. I got a can of condenced goats milk at the store and mixed some with water. Im using these lil plastic things to feed him that my room mate had. my ex suggested i try mixing in a small amount of ensure for extra calories but i dunno =/ he does it for his rats.

Murry figures out how to spray urine when she was about 10 months old.
Checked her out, cant see any signs of infection, She was eating some of her pelletes when i was in there on my desktop so im hoping she'll eat more. She did get excited when my friend stopped by because he always open the cage and lets her take her own rasin out of the container. And this is a new batch of pellets. She was at the bottom of another bag the day modi was born and she didnt look like shed eaten any of it so i switched htem out.

So murry my momma chinchi is eating her hey but not her pellets. She'll also eat a rasin maybe once a day and a piece of papaya but other then that shes not eating much and shes nursing. Is she gonna go back to eating normal soon? Also since the day after she had modi shes been abnormaly calm like i can fully pet her from head to tail and shes never let me do that shes always run away before i could get past her head 0.o
Note that normaly murry is a little crack head about treats, loves her pellets and doesnt like to be touch unless its a pet on the forhead or a scratch under the chin. Shes one of the chinchis that likes to pee at you if shes annoyed lol
