Q & A / Re: Vacation
« on: July 17, 2016, 12:26:41 PM »
I got my chinchilla from a breeder in a different state, but thanks anyways. I just feel guilty leaving them home for a week. When the pet sitter comes, i can leave her a note saying what to do. What should i tell her to do while I'm gone besides taking them out?

Q & A / Vacation
« on: July 17, 2016, 10:49:30 AM »
So in November, I am going on vacation with my family. We are going to be gone for a whole week. WE have a pet sitter that comes to take care of all the pets, however, she is just feeding my chinchillas... its too expensive and time worthy for her to take them out and play. I'm not sure what i should do. Whether i have a friend come over to do it or are they fine to leave for a week without coming out. I feel very bad if they don't come out to play, but having a friend come over means they can lose one very easily. Any advice?

Q & A / Re: Please help me with new chin owner trouble!
« on: July 17, 2016, 10:46:27 AM »
This is a bit late sorry!! I had a similar issue with my second chinchilla. She was very skittish and afraid. I got her from a breeder and when that lady picked her up, she was very friendly and didn't bark. However, when i brought her to my house... she was very afraid and barked at everything. If i would open the cage, she would stay in her house barking. She wouldn't even come to treats for me. It just takes time with them. Eventually she/he will get used to you. I just picked up the stuff in her house and forced her to come out. I then brought her to the bathroom where she has nowhere to hide. She slowly got used to me and stopped barking at everything. Believe it or not, she now tries to come out of her cage whenever she gets the time to. It'll just take some time to bond. Good luck!

Yea I know. I just wasn't expecting that. I was emptying out her poop and before I knew, she was in there. She still has the toothpaste in her fur. I'm not really sure what to do at this point. It's pretty hardened. I can't cut it either

General Chat / HELP!

I was emptying out poop into the toilet when all of a sudden my baby chinchilla jumped in. I quickly got her out and her tail and under got wet. I dried her off as much as possible using a towel. I then brought her upstairs to blow dry her fur. She freaked out and knocked down toothpaste then got a little into her fur. She now has toothpaste stuck in her fur. I was gonna try to cut it but its too close to her skin. She then jumped inside dust which is going to cause mats on her damp spots of her fur. I really don't know what to do. Please help

Q & A / Soft poop
« on: June 27, 2016, 08:45:12 PM »
Okay so the first couple of days i had my baby chinchilla, she had normal poop. However, these past couple of days her poop has been very soft and sticking to everything. It is leaving marks on the floor. I think its because my older chinchilla drops her food and treats down the cage then the baby eats it. The breeder i got her from told me i should burn toast if this happens. I think I'm going to try to burn toast.

The ear isn't constantly hanging down. Most of the times it is perked up. It also isn't completey floppy it just like hangs down a little bit at specific times.

General Chat / Update

Just a little update on my chins: Today i put them nose to nose through the cage. My older one didn't do anything. However, the baby started to bark. I guess she's still a bit afraid. She's doing very well adapting to her new house and to her new family. I'm pretty sure they will be friends soon:) ;)

My baby chinchillas one ear kind of just flops around. It isn't perky like the other one.. Could this mean there's a problem? My chinchillas also fought so it could've been bitten or somethin

Q & A / Baby chins
« on: June 20, 2016, 06:10:22 PM »
Is it normal for my baby chinchilla (8 weeks old) to bark inside her cage. Whenever she sees my hand in the cage, she barks. But when she smells me, she stops and tries to run out the cage. When she's playing, she doesn't bark once. Why is this?
