General Chat / Finally
« on: December 25, 2016, 05:25:41 PM »
As some of you may now, my chinchillas strongly disliked each other. Now that my younger one is bigger than my older one, they're finally starting to get along. I started to take them out together on a couch and let them into neutral territory. I found that they didn't bark or fight. I did that for a couple of days and recently brought them into a bathroom. They did fur bite for a little, however, now they seem to be mutual. They will get stand on two legs and stand tall and bark once but afterwards, they just squeek and run around. I put the stairs back into their cage and they both went into each others sections.I did this for 20 minutes then closed to off again/  Im going to continue to this and see how it works out and hopefully they will get along. I have a question. Sometimes they will pull out each others fur but they won't bark or anything. Also, they go nose to nose. what does this mean?

Q & A / Dominance
« on: September 27, 2016, 05:43:00 PM »
I recently found out my chinchilla has been attacking my other one over dominance. I got chilly, my 1 year old chinchilla first then I added a new addition months later. Ever since the first day they didn't get along. I have descovered that when I told chilly outside of peppers cage she's friendly towards pepper. However when I hold pepper she instantly goes crazy and tries to attack. I'm pretty sure this is fighting over dominance but Is there anyway to fix this?

Other Pets / Question
« on: September 05, 2016, 08:56:47 PM »
So I'm not sure if this is relevant towards this subject but... I currently have a golden retriever. My parents always talk about how much they would love to get another but the shedding is too bad. My dog sheds enough already where we vacuum everyday. However, I feel like having two wouldn't have a bigger effect than it already does.. So my question is: Is there that much of s shedding difference between one golden retriever and two?

General Chat / Water
« on: September 01, 2016, 06:00:15 PM »
So when i have my chinchilla out in the bathroom, she always goes crazy near the sink. She bites it and squeaks and runs all around. When i turn it on she goes crazy drinking it while its coming out. Then she will just drink it from the sink bottom. Her water is perfectly fine.. in fact i recently got her a new water bottle and make sure its good everyday. I feel like she would love to have a glass water dish in her cage that she can just drink from. Would it be a bad idea to try it?

General Chat / ASAP!
« on: August 17, 2016, 06:41:51 PM »
So tomorrow I'm moving my sister into college and I'm going to be Away for 3 days. I have a pet sitter coming who lets my dog outside and feeds my cats and cleans up after everyone. She's feeding my parrot and also chinchillas. I want to leave a note on what to do with my chinchillas. She's not going to play with them(which I feel really bad about) but there's nothing I can do. All she really needs to do is refill their hay and give them treats. However, I just don't know what to say!

General Chat / Sounds - what do they mean?
« on: July 31, 2016, 04:56:54 PM »
So my young chinchilla was pretty skittish when I first got her. She used to bark a lot but she doesn't do that anymore. However, whenever I pick her up from her cage or pet her she makes a sound similar to a Guinea pig. I'm not sure whether this is a good sound or not

Q & A / Chins not getting along
« on: July 17, 2016, 12:37:31 PM »
So my baby chinchilla that i got in May is still not getting along with my older chin. The last time i let the both of them socialize with dust baths in June was a disaster. My older chinchilla did nothing but chase the baby around. The baby was making sounds and running as fast as she could. I had a towel in there and tried to grab my older one. I ended up getting bit pretty hard. This really shocked me. I let them meet nose to nose. My sister holding my older one i had the baby. My grey one went nose to nose perfectly fine until she bit my sister. This is rare behavior from my grey one she never bites. This concerns me thinking that they may never be friends. I really dont have the time to take both of them out individually and having to worry about eventually buying the baby one a separate cage instead of separating the big cage. I don't know what to do anymore

Q & A / Vacation
« on: July 17, 2016, 10:49:30 AM »
So in November, I am going on vacation with my family. We are going to be gone for a whole week. WE have a pet sitter that comes to take care of all the pets, however, she is just feeding my chinchillas... its too expensive and time worthy for her to take them out and play. I'm not sure what i should do. Whether i have a friend come over to do it or are they fine to leave for a week without coming out. I feel very bad if they don't come out to play, but having a friend come over means they can lose one very easily. Any advice?

General Chat / HELP!
« on: July 05, 2016, 06:14:28 PM »
I was emptying out poop into the toilet when all of a sudden my baby chinchilla jumped in. I quickly got her out and her tail and under got wet. I dried her off as much as possible using a towel. I then brought her upstairs to blow dry her fur. She freaked out and knocked down toothpaste then got a little into her fur. She now has toothpaste stuck in her fur. I was gonna try to cut it but its too close to her skin. She then jumped inside dust which is going to cause mats on her damp spots of her fur. I really don't know what to do. Please help

Q & A / Soft poop
« on: June 27, 2016, 08:45:12 PM »
Okay so the first couple of days i had my baby chinchilla, she had normal poop. However, these past couple of days her poop has been very soft and sticking to everything. It is leaving marks on the floor. I think its because my older chinchilla drops her food and treats down the cage then the baby eats it. The breeder i got her from told me i should burn toast if this happens. I think I'm going to try to burn toast.

General Chat / Update
« on: June 21, 2016, 03:20:57 PM »
Just a little update on my chins: Today i put them nose to nose through the cage. My older one didn't do anything. However, the baby started to bark. I guess she's still a bit afraid. She's doing very well adapting to her new house and to her new family. I'm pretty sure they will be friends soon:) ;)
