hello! I've had a male chinchilla for a year and I think he needs some company! Last year i tried to bring him together with another male but the thing did not work out, maybe because I was impatient up to a point. I would like to know if there is a chance for two males living together in harmony. I would not like to get a female one because they will reproduce and I will not be sure if I will be able to find a trustworty person to give him/ her the babies. It would be necessary here for me to point out that I live in Greece and castration here is not safe and can be fatal. Pleaseeee help me!  ::think::

I doubt it will matter male or female. Chinchillas like yours may never take to living with another. It can take a couple of months to introduce chinchillas.

Thanks for your reply. Do you think that I should better leave him alone? I do not mind if it will be two months or more..I am afraid of hurting each other.

He just lies down without doing anything for some time...I do not know...He does not seem sad, though. I posted here because I needed some advice on what to do.. But from what I've read, they can live alone as well if the chinparent plays with them..

I've had two chinchillas now, both kept single, and there were no problems. Make sure you have good chew toys in the cage. You can also give cardboard or paper as a treat (preferably from food boxes or paper with no ink on it).

I have two, I mainly got my second chin because my first chin would stress when I was gone over a day or two!! To keep them intersted (mainly my first chin) I keep the tv on in my room. I have been turning off during the day when I'm at work because I know they are totally passed out but if they are awake when I leave I don't..If you don't have a tv you can try the radio!
