chinchilla crying
« on: July 15, 2013, 09:35:30 AM »

Doodle was definitely crying the other day. Once it was because I put him in the carrier to clean the cage, and the other time was because I was holding something that he wanted. Has anyone else had a similar experience?

No, can't say I have. Mine will bark at random times during the day though. I think it is when he gets rudely awakened from his sleep from vibration or noise and sometimes I think he does it when he wants attention. It's still somewhat rare maybe twice in any given week, at least, when I'm around to hear it.

I looked it up on YouTube and couldn't find it... It's like a sad chirping sound. He was whining and I felt so bad :(

Some chinchillas are more vocal than others, both with each other and with you.  I once had a chinchilla that would cry whenever it was lonely and wanted me to come play with it.  Just like a puppy, they will learn that making noises gets you to do something for them and then they will become more and more vocal.

He did it again last night. Is it possible that he's looking for affection?
