Hammock
« on: February 10, 2012, 02:15:45 PM »

Has anyone gotten a hammock or a bed for their chinny before? I am thinking about getting one for Jose cause they just look so comfy. But I wanted to see if anyone else had any experience with them first.  ::shrug::

I have a hammock for my chinchillas and they adore it, they snuggle in it all day, and they don't chew it up thank god  :::grins::, but it depends on the chinchilla I think, because I know someone whose chinchilla just chews up any hammocks. So if you have a rampant chewer maybe not the best idea.

some chins will like them, and some wont'..

just make sure you get all fleece hammock. alot of sites use cotton and flannel and fleece is the only safe chin material, however, if you notice your chin chewing on it, it should be taking out for her/his safety.

My furry lil man sleeps on his back in it, takes his food up there to eat in it, and watches tv in it. He loves it so much so I'm sure your chin will too!

One of my chinchillas (Annie) warmed to her hammock immediately and she can be seen chilling out in it almst all the time. Her daughter (Pixie) in the same cage has no interest in it and her son, (Buddy) in a different cage, took a few months to get comfortable with his but now he loves it. Like others have said, some love it, some don't care for it. Keep a regular eye out for chewing though, I've had to repair a few fleece stuffed toys but generally they're fine.

Snickerdoodle, my little boy, doesnt sleep in his hammock. the only time he ever goes into it is when he falls into it. He likes chewing on it, though.

If they chew it remove it, it or any fabric can cause blockages when ingested.
Also watch for them peeing in it, if they sit in a wet hammock your asking for fungus.
All mine do is pee in them so I gave up,cardboard tubes work better. You can hang them up too.

How do you hang cardboard tubes?

I hang stuff by using jewelry wire (walmart; about 2 bucks); its thin and flexible and can hold a lot of weight! I have a large bell, a mineral wheel and a salt wheel on one

Yup any kind of wire, even coat hanger will work. Just poke a couple of hole in the tube, thread wire through and hang it where ever you want.
