hi there. I currently feed my boys pellets for breeding and active chinchillas, but was wondering whether I should switch to age active as they are approx 7 now (they're rescue so not 100% sure). I'd be grateful if someone could tell me what the best age is to change? Thanks!

Like Deb and Jean said, if its quality and not filled with unhealthy delicious treats, then your doing the right thing.  We all know they want the treats but we have to watch over and keep them safe.  If you decide to switch either LoneStarChinchillas.com or you can get the same stuff from Jean.  Both great prices and great selections.

just curious, what are you feeding him?   even tho he is fine, pls make sure it is a quality food [hope that doesn't sound rude], but quality food is important.

Sorry I took so long to reply! They have Charnwood Milling pellets which is the best food you can get in the UK. I weaned them off the Charlie Chinchilla stuff they were fed at the rescue, as it had lots of tasty treats in it that they would pick out!

sorry i didn't know you were in the uk.. i don't pay attention to where people live,

so i have no clue about that food.  i used to have it written down someplace how much of what should be in the food but i can't find it sorry. [ingred wise].

i'm on the isle of man but the pellets available are same as in the uk.

i feed supreme science and beaphar care+ - they used to be on supreme science but then i got a rescue with teeth problems and the beaphar care+ is a different type of pellet, it's crunchy (doesn't crumble) and is apparently made to mimic bark so it wears their teeth down better than normal pellets - she loved them so much that i thought i'd give a few to the other chins and they love them. they are quite expensive compared to the other brands available (1.5 kg bag - £9.50, supreme science is 2kg for £5) but i've had fantastic results with mae so she gets mostly them and some supreme science and the healthy chins have two bowls.

as people already mentioned, if what you're feeding is quality food and it has the right levels of nutrients (ie not too much protein or fat), you can just continue with that. if you do change food, just make sure you do it very very slowly, i usually do it over a month period.
