New (as an active member..)
« on: July 25, 2010, 05:51:03 AM »

Hello there..

My name is Nuba and I'm a 21 year old university student from Denmark. I've always had a passion for animals and been crazy about chinchillas when I was about 11. Unfortunately I did not have room for a proper chinchilla cage at home, for this reason I didn't get a chinchilla until I moved away from home.

This January I got my first chinchilla, a 5 months old (more or less) black velvet male from a petshop. (Planned to buy from a breeder, I came to the shop to buy a cage and then this little guy stole my heart..  ::) Darwin became tame like a dog and he adapted perfectly. Sadly Darwin suddenly past away in May for unknown reasons, the only conspicuous thing was that he put on weigh very slowly, he only weighted approximately 400 gram at 10 months despite he was eating perfectly.

I'm sure I have done everything after the book, I have no idea what went wrong  :'( Some breeders think that he might have had som bad genes or something, I guess I'll never know. It was just hard to lose him like that, so unexpected.

Darwin showed us that chins are the perfect pet for us, so this 2th of July we got another chinchilla from a fur farmer, a 3 months old violet male named Lennon. He has already reached 380 gram at 3 months, he's just perfect! I just can't help checking on him all the time, especially if he sleeps on his side, I might panic..  :blush2:

Well now you know a little about me, I tried to make it as short as possible...  ::) As you know, I'm danish and for this reason my english isn't perfect - I'll do my best but don't hesitate to ask if something doesn't make sense.

I'm looking forward to a lot of chintalk with you guys ;)

yes, black velvets, if bred with other black vevets, tend to have gene issues that lead to death. i hope u can find another from a breeder! and make sure your chins teeth are dark orange, if they aren't, then they are in need of a whole lot more calium.

Best of luck
