Alfalfa
« on: August 15, 2006, 08:27:21 AM »

My chins are on the Kline pellets and the breeder I get them from feeds alfalfa cubes, but my little ones don't care for them. I have been giving them the alfalfa hay cubes and loose timothy hay. They eat just about all the timothy but very little of the cubes. Should I try the loose alfalfa or what should I do? I think with that pellet they are suppose to have alfalfa but so far mine don't like it.  ::shrug::

::silly::Hi BabyTaz,

If they are suppose to have alfalfa (according to the breeder), then you might want to give them loose alfalfa and see if they will eat it.

My chins tend to like loose hay more than the cubes.

I wouldn't worry, many breeders use cube because it's cleaner.
Maybe you could ask if they feel it's necessary.Most pellets are alfalfa based, check yours and see. If they are then Timothy should be enough and alfalfa can be more of a treat.
I think the timothy is more impartant, and if they like loose hay that should be fine too.
Give them both in a loose.

I am not familiar with Kline pellets, but if they are good quality pellets then they will be mostly alfalfa hay anyways.  I have heard that you should only feed alfalfa hay by iteself as an occasional treat.  Timonthy hay is the one you want to use on a daily basis.
