Hi,

I have 6 chinchillas

and I am looking for a new place to buy their chewing wood. Is there anyone out there that can recommend somewhere that has great wood for a great price? If there's anywhere wholesale, that would be great. Any suggestions are appreciated!!!

Your timeing is perfect! My MCBA Booklet just came in today's mail, with a list of safe woods for chinchillas. Many times, you can find things you need in your own back yard!
Keep in mind all wood should come from trees that have never been sprayed and should be washed, with a mild soap, bark stripped and oven dried at a very low tempature.
The "safe" trees, according to the article are:
Arbutus
Barberry
Cottonwood
Hazelnut
Cholla
Poplar
Hawthorn
Aspen
Horse apple
Elm
Larch
Pecan
Kiwi
Magnolia
Bamboo
Dogwood
Horse wood
Crabapple
Mulberry
Willow
Manzanita
& Fruit Trees: Apple, Pear & Grape

Yes, do not keep the bark on the wood because that would be very harmful to your chin if he digests it.
Also, some try Pumice it's also really good as a chewing toy.

Zee12- the bark is the best part of the wood! Once my critters peel the bark, then they leave the rest of the stick! As long as the wood has not been treated with pesticides and is prepared correctly (washed,boiled, and baked) the bark is fine!
