A Gift Chinchilla for Christmas?

What a delightful idea!
Or maybe not ...
Let's look at it from several different angles ...

You cherish your chinchilla and could not believe anyone could do otherwise, when it comes to a chin of their own. Your little one is sweet, loving, cute, entertaining, easy to care for, hypoallergenic, and a great companion. Who could not love that precious face when he's holding onto the bars of his cage begging for a treat? Who would not be delighted at the idea of being able to come home and laugh away their troubles of the day at the antics of this wondrous little furry creature?

Who would not, could not, or should not... ?

(1) The person who would not have or would not take the 30 minutes to an hour each and every day to spend one-on-one time with this little fur ball.
(2) The light sleeper that would not have another quiet room other than their bedroom to keep him in.
(3) The one who has a cat that is a good mouser.
(4) The one who has a hunting or game dog.
(5) The one who may not have the extra money for vet bills that may come up suddenly.
(6) Someone who likes to take a week or two of vacation each year and would not always have someone to care for the chin while they were away.
(7) Someone that would not have the time to study and learn about all the care and needs of a chinchilla.
(8) A person that is not responsible enough to take proper care of it.
(9) A person that is too nice to tell you "I love your chin, it's perfect for you ... but not for me."

If you are sure the recipient would love to have a chinchilla as a present ... are the holidays the right timing for one?

Let's ask a chin for its point of view...

(1) I like places where it is quiet and calm. Would this be the way things would be on Christmas Day at my new home? Maybe a cage with a picture of me would be the best idea under the tree ... with an after-the-holidays delivery. ;-D
(2) Is my new home chin-proofed? For my safety and to avert a sad tragedy during the holidays, it is best that my new home is chin-proofed before I arrive!
(3) I want a permanent home. Would I be loved and cherished forever, or soon forgotten and ignored?
(4) When I need the special care of an exotic pet vet ... is there one near-by that will know how to care for me? Not all exotic pet vets do ... and almost no regular vets do.
(5) I want to eat everything I'm given, but do not know all the things that are not good for me ... will they keep me safe from things I should not eat or chew?
(6) I want to be part of the family ... will I be 'part of the family' ... or just a 'pet'?

Please, keep these things in mind before you get someone a chinchilla as a gift.
