Chinchilla Occupations

Have you ever wondered what types of occupations your chinchillas would have if they had to go to work? Would they be salesman, scientists, or possibly Elvis performers? Each chinchilla has such a unique personality and are geared to handle situations completely different, which is very similar to humans. I became a microbiologist, my husband a chemist and my best friend an accountant so that led me to day dream about which occupations would best suit each of our chinchillas.

Joey is our oldest chinchilla, he turned 3 years old at the end of January. I used to see him as an Elvis performer because he used to curl the side of his lip up wards, very similar to the King. However, I think a better career for him would be an acrobat for the circus. Joey loves to do back flips over the outside of his Leo Braun wheel, he is very athletic and he is very limber, able to contort his body into strange shapes.

Raven, our beautiful ebony mommy to three litters would be best fitted for the modeling world. With her shimmering black coat and the personality she displays when she struts her stuff would be a great asset on a runway, modeling all the latest designs. Hopefully, she would not have to model any fur coats, besides her own.

Sadie is Joey and Raven’s oldest daughter, reaching the one-year old mark in February. Night after night of playtime with Sadie, she reminds me to get haircuts, manicures and pedicures. Her career would be a hair and nail specialist, playing close attention to all the fine details. However, most her clients should know that she does not perform trims, only major haircuts. And hopefully with time, she will start to cut straighter lines.

Kahlua, Sadie’s younger sister has so much of her mother and father’s behavior combined in her personality. However, she has a Spiderman-like quality about her that I think would make her an excellent skyscraper window washer. She climbs the sides of her cages with no fear and with such grace.

If you ever need a good hand and foot massage, please stop in at “CoCo’s Spa of Rest and Relaxation”. CoCo never misses an opportunity to scratch and cuddle with my extremities in her cage or during playtime. I always feel calm and relaxed after my hand and foot massages.

Boomer has always had a knack for rearranging his cage, and I am not only referring to moving huts, and chewing up wooden houses. He chews through his aluminum wheels without a second thought. So I have decided that Boomer’s career path would lead him to be an architect. Maybe we can put his creative juices to the greater good.

Is there a doctor in the house??? Is there a doctor in the house??? I think two of my chins could fill the role of doctor, but doctors of two different disciplines. Cassie is very calm and will sit in my lap and listen to me talk and talk and talk. (If anyone knows me, I can talk a long time about nothing.) Cassie is very well suited to be a psychiatrist; she listens and never interrupts a train of thought.

Our other doctor chinchilla is Nala. Nala has always had a way of healing those she comes into contact with. She would make a great general practioner, giving her patients all her attention and care.

Bandit would have one of the best occupations, a food critic. He has always been very particular about the way he eats his food and also what he eats. Bandit will take small nibbles as he examines how the food affects his palate. Maybe he should stick though only too vegetarian restaurants.

When Roo came into our lives, we had no idea of the impact he would have on us. He is probably the most clever chin I have met, learning how to open his cage doors, throwing temper tantrums when he doesn’t get his way, but also being my shirt buddy who rides around with me through the house. However, if I had to pick one occupation that Roo would excel in, I think the courtroom would be his calling. Being a lawyer would be a perfect outlet for Roo to always voice his MANY opinions….and he would be the center of attention for periods of time which would thrill him.

Roo’s first born son, Wally, has many similar characteristics to his father; his incredible drive to get things done his way, being the center of attention and never taking “no” as an answer. Wally could definitely be a lawyer but I also think a CEO role would suit him just as well. Watch out business world!

Kelley may look sweet on the outside but don’t let that fool you. This little girl has been through so much in her first 10 weeks of life. She has survived being the only girl in a litter of 4 and she pulled through after a nasty wrestling match with her brother over milk. When I think of Kelley’s future, I think she would make the greatest American Gladiator. She is tough as nails and never gives up…she just keeps going.

And last but not least, our newest addition to the family, Dove. Dove is only 6 weeks old but is already showing signs of being very much like her older sisters, Kahlua and Sadie. Dove loves feet, cuddling with them but most of all nibbling on them. Maybe if we could convince her to appreciate feet, she would make a great podiatrist.

What occupation would best suit your chinchillas? Are they models, engineers, comedians or something completely different? Whatever their personalities or preferences, they all do have one job in common….making their owners happy and smile. My chinchillas more than fulfill that full-time job.
