Finding Chinchillas
I saw my first chinchilla about 4 years ago. A member of my church had one, and when I was over to his house he let it out to play. At the time I knew very little about them;only that they were soft, cute, jumped well, and could run as fast as anything. I asked my mom if I could get one, the obvious answer was no. Then I forgot about chinchillas for about 2 years.
Two years later, I was flipping channels on tv, and there was a show about pets. I stopped and watched it, and then a chinchilla came on the screen. I remembered the little furball of 2 years ago, and decided to do some research about chinchillas. After that, I was hooked. I would spend most of my free time looking up chinchilla information. I was trying to learn everything possible about chinchillas. All I would talk about was chinchillas. My family thought I was a little off the wall (still do lol), and when I asked my parents again they still said no. Two months later, after convincing, having my parents talking talk to people who had them, they said yes. That was around August of 2002. I had been saving my money since January or Feburary, and did a lot of babysitting and other things to get money.
In the fall, I started looking for chinchillas for sale in my area. I saw a few in pet stores, but they didn't seem very friendly. They were about 100 dollars, and I knew I could get one from a breeder at a cheaper price and with a pedigree. Plus, they would be much more friendly. I searched for a while and didn't find anything close by, and then came to the Chinchilla Club. I looked through the list of breeders, and found Chocolate Chinchillas. I went to the site and saw the two standard females for sale and I was sold right away. But my parents were not. A little more convincing was needed so I could get two, but in the end I won (this was partly because I asked my mom when she was half asleep lol- and at this point she was beyond caring as long as I would be quiet about chinchillas).
I was so excited to pick them up, I couldn't get much sleep the night before. I picked them up in November, the 11th I think. It was SO much fun! Dawnna was very nice and I got to see many different colors of chinchillas. And best of all, I drove away with two of my own. All my hard work, money saving, and convincing finally paid off. Mochi and Ling- ling are now considered by all a part of the family. My parents were a little skeptical at first, but now they will talk to them, cuddle them, and play with them a lot. My older brother though they were a dumb rodent but now thinks otherwise.
