New Chinchilla Stories

Star was the first baby Chinchilla I bought and I paid for her in September 2000 and picked her up in October. My daughter who went with me to pick her up kept thinking why Chinchillas. I had them 25 years ago and couldn't wait to have them again but all the explaining didn't help her understand anything about Chinchillas or how neat they are. The minute we walked into the ranch she was mezmorized and instantly fell in love with the baby and it took her a whole 30 seconds to name her star. When I asked why star she explained to me she was as black as night and the only thing you can see is stars. She is now grown and has a baby star of her own. ~Scott Barnes

This is Chuckie, my 3 year old standard grey baby. We weren't originally looking to buy a chin, we were looking for a rabbit. My neighbor suggested a chinchilla, becuase rabbits....well....smell! We got Chuckie, and we have bonded so much since then. He now weighs almost 2 lbs and is about 9 inches tall on his hind legs.

Daisy was purchased from Jamie at Huggable Pets Chinchilla Farm. She rode on Bill's shoulder for over 250 miles on the way home, so there was no problem falling in love with this wonderful little chin from the very beginning. She is very dainty and well mannered.

This is one of Terk's first pictures. I got him in February 2001. I'd heard about chinchillas, seen one, and read about them on the internet all the time. Then my dwarf Russian hamster died. A couple of months later I wanted another hamster, so I went to the pet store to get one. (This would have made my 15th hamster.) Needless to say instead of spending $6.00 - at most for a little hamster, I walked out with a chinchilla, cage, food, toys, dust, and treats spending almost $300. They told me he was 6 weeks old at the time, which would make his birthday 01-01-01. Of course now I know that was too young to be away from his mother, but I wouldn't trade him for the world. Now I wonder - why would anyone want a hamster, yeah they are cute and tiny, but a chinchilla is so much fun with so much personality! He makes me laugh everyday. So now I have another - Tyke. No pictures yet, I've had him for a week and haven't had the film developed yet.
