What to do....
« on: May 12, 2007, 06:20:57 PM »

I have a male chin who has this infatuation with a baby blanket (he likes to hump it), how can I break him of that? I have tried to take it out but it ends up back in the cage (mainly due to the hubby). What do you suggest?

Thanks,

::silly::Let him have his fantasies!    :D

Or get him a mate, if he is old enough.   Or a cagemate buddy.

I'm not trying to be flip-id, honest ... but, he needs a female mate or a male cagemate to keep him company.   ::)

This kind of antics usually ends once they are no longer lonely.

This is not always a sexual thing. You can see it between two male chins or two female chins.  It is often one chin's way of trying/showing he/she is the alpha/dominate chinchilla of the cage.  This is the way they make the other chin submissive and acknowledge he/she is "the chin in charge".

But, I think we need a chinchilla physiologist here to find out why he has this fixation on the blanket.  :2funny:
(just joking)
I have heard of a chin humping their human's hand ... be glad this is not the case with your little one.   ::)

I agree.  You can't break a male of doing what comes naturally.

I have a couple with a Teddy, and he gets some going over. :2funny:
I have to get new ones every few months.

Lol I had a rabbit like that. He always entertained the neighbours. And he lived a long and happy life with his teddy. :)

I find it hilarious. My avatar is my fuzzy buddy trying to mate with my shoe.

Be very glad it isn't your hand. I have one that anytime my hand is close to the bottom of the cage he jumps on it.

My Sid's quite the player actually. He has two teddies, a cagemate, and a blanket that he's quite fond of. His cagemate, Johnny, acts slightly disgusted when Sid "has his way" with things. It's rather entertaining.

::silly::The 'humping' is not always a sexual thing ... when done between two males or two females ... it is a way of deciding who will be the dominate/alpha/boss chin of the cage.

Some of mine do it too my shoes, even when I'm wearing them. I find it's the rubber they like, and will sit on the toe of my sneaker and boogie.
Some will do it to cuttle bones, kind of sit on them rubbing themselves on it.
So are they trying to be boss of the shoes and cuttle bones? Or are they excited by them?
I think with the above it's some kind of excitement. ;D
