« on: February 06, 2017, 12:05:52 AM »

Hello,

I don't know this little fella's pedigree. Care to take a guess?

I'm gonna guess she's a standard grey chinchilla. (Assuming it's a she.)

He was sold as a base gray, but the dark frosting on his back makes me think that he might have the TOV gene.

Would it be fair to call him a "TOV gray"? Is that even a thing?

A TOV chinchilla typically has much darker markings on the face and the tips. They will look very black and dark. I think you have a standard, perhaps dark phase but it's hard to say with the lighting. Standards have dark veiling on the back and top of the head, and a bright white belly.

A tov gray is a black velvet. He is not a black velvet. Hes a regular standard gray. What you are seeing as dark frosting is his veiling
