Possible UTI
« on: January 03, 2016, 12:10:21 AM »

I think one of my chins may have a UTI there's been alot of urine around the cage and I just thought one was marking his territory but tonight I noticed something I should have saw last night it looks to be blood in the urine. I am wondering if anyone knows about the types of samples vets will accept.  I am not sure how I can get a sample so do you know if they will accept the dry urine off his tile, although if I do that I don't exactly know which one it was I have a pretty good idea who it is its mostly pee in the wheel Isaac uses and he's been making alot of chatter lately squeeking, alot hes never made mu h noise before so it may be him? Also vets around here are not open tomorrow, Sunday, only emergency is. Is this a matter I should wait on until Monday or try and address tomorrow?

Try placing a piece of tin foil in the under tray where your chin urinates. I would consult the vet asap to halt things getting any worse.

Consult your vet and get instructions and advice.

They can use a urine sample off of the tile if you keep the cage cleaned daily. A dirty sample isnt the best but it at least will give them something to work with. Just be sure to mark the time you find the sample and refrigerate it if it will be more than 3 hours till you get to the vet. The vet may also be able to do a cysto to get a sample. A vet sooner than later is best. Chins are prone to getting stones so the sooner you treat the infection the lower the risk of those developing

Don't worry. Most chinchillas eat and drink mostly at night way after dark. It takes some serious problems to cause a chinchilla to stop drinking. I'd expect the separation to have some impact but that should straighten itself out by the end of tomorrow. Make sure they are both in the same room together.

The cages are side by side. Still no sign of who it is though...

Could it have been a red stain from something else like a toy that had red dye in it that got wet?

Oh well just wait another day and make sure the shavings are fresh and clean. Whatever it is may be healing up too.
