Just got back from work and she is perky and active.

Ears are back though since shes stressed out. Shes eating bits or hay and chewing on pumice....

All good signs.

So i've been sitting quietly in the room with my chins observing since ive been back and she is now eating a couple  pellets out of the bowl!

So now another question:

Do we stay with small amounts of critical care until the end of the antibiotic cycle or do we let her be?

Maybe that little bit or critical care jump started her appetite

It was only 2 or 3 pellets but thats the first ive seen in a few days

I'd say wait until tomorrow morning and see if there is improvement since chinchillas typically consume most of their food at night.
If there is not I recommend feeding half the manufacturer's recommended daily amount throughout tomorrow to keep her bowels in check. Then you can wait another day to see if there is improvement after that, however, it is likely the antibiotics are the direct cause of the problem and that it is going to get worse before it gets better.

I'm glad you are seeing improvement. It is possible the infection is being killed off by the meds and that could be the cause of her getting her appetite back. If so you'll find she'll probably eat a good part of her pellets tonight. I think the pelleted diet is still a pretty big percentage of a chinchilla's diet. I'm guessing it's around 50% of their typical daily intake by mass.

Mb30, I'm so sorry your chin isn't doing well... I really hope she perks up soon.
My chinchilla is taking baytril as well. She had her first does a few hours ago.
How common is anorexia?

Shes not out of the woods yet! Shes got 3 more days of baytril to go
She is still pooping though...small but they are still there
Shes still eating somewhat too

I dont think the baytril is working though as she is still grooming herself down there

I think she may be peeing on the metal floor though and its getting in her fur
Thats probably how she got this in the first place

I was reading that oil of oregano is more effective against certain bacterias then marketed drugs and its chin safe so that may be a last ditch effort.

Im going to try to get her in the vet tuesday and see if they can tell me more

She is still active and wanting to run around though which is a good sign i think

My wife weighed salem today and shes 1 gram heavier than she was at the vets on monday so that is great news.
She was 700 and now shes 701.

We have only syringe fed her critical care on 2 occasions so far to try to get her poops a bit bigger.

I finally was able to breathe a sigh of relief but am not letting my guard down yet.

I have read too many horror stories about baytril.

I thought for sure it would make her appetite disappear completely. Luckily that has not been the case yet.
