Hank
« on: April 26, 2011, 02:42:26 AM »

Unfortunately, Hank did not survive the neutering after all. His lack of interest in his food was the only symptom and the vet who had done the operation had told me to expect that. He started to become a bit lethargic last night so we brought him to the animal hospital. They put him on oxygen and antibiotics and he perked up a little. He fought but unfortunately, he died this morning. The vets at the animal hospital reckon it was septicaemia. After this and many other similar stories I've heard following the surgery, I would urge anyone getting their chins neutered to insist on antibiotics. I asked but my vet assured me it was not necessary.
I'm completely heartbroken. He was such a funny grumpy little dude. we're going to miss him horribly.
What do we do now? we don't know whether to show the other chinchillas or not? They're such social animals, do they grieve?
