Hair Rings Driving Me Crazy!!?
« on: October 20, 2010, 01:09:05 PM »

My 3 year old Standard Grey male, Luigi is always getting hair rings!! I'm talking at least once or twice a week.

We took him to the vets for the first 5 or 6 times so she could show me how to do it myself because it was £22 a time. Which as you can imagine was expensive but i had to make sure i confident enough and ready to do it myself. I wouldn't want to hurt my boy.

So every week now we have to hold him and get it out, all out. I double if not triple check. He's really settled down and got used to it, but everywere i've read, there not as common as Luigi gets them.

So i have a question:

Could it be because he's in a cage with a Female Ebony, Rayne? Now they started as a breeding pair, but she's never fell pregnant (we weigh her every week and she has monthly vet checkups), they're simply the best of friends, but i'm wondering if he's trying to have his way maybe, but just failing to impregnate her or she's not having it? Hence weekly rings?

Hope that's enough info for somebody to help.

Thanks

But he wouldn't be picking up the scent all the time. hmmmmm
Yes mating and attempting too, are the most common causes, that and him not cleaning himself well enough.
I would think you'd only find them once a month, or during that one week.
Yes must be some pain.
Some chins just can't get enough I guess ;)
