SAFTEY OF HAMMOCKS

I HAVE HEARD ON THIS SITE THAT PEOPLE USE HAMMOCKS FOR THEIR CHINS AND WAS WONDERING HOW GOOD THEY ARE FOR THE CHINS AND IF THEY LIKE THEM AND WHAT KIND TO USE I REMEMBER SOMEONE SAYING THEY MAKE THEIR OWN WHAT KIND OF MATERIAL SO YOU USE WOULD ONE THAT A FERRET WOULD USE BE OK NOT ONE THAT THE FERRET ACTUALLY USED BUT A NEW ONE?

I had hammocks in my cages but they started to urinate in them. I washed them a few times but then I just threw them out. They were the flees ferret hammocks. They did seem to enjoy it at 1st but when they started pee peeing in them they had to go. You also need to check and make sure they don't chew them. Mine didn't but I am sure some chins will.

I got two from http://www.fuzzbuttchins.com/

They're made from polar fleece and when I first put them in the cages the chins chewed at them a little, but quickly stopped. The material isn't very rewarding for them to chew on evidently. My chins don't use them all that often, but I do catch them sleeping in them once in a while.

I got 1 Superpet  hammock from petsmart and Daisy loves it! I love it to, because its easy to wash and i love seeing Daisy soooo happy!  :::grins::

I use Fleece hammocks in my cages. :) I don't like the ferret type because a chin could attempt to injest the woolly stuff a lot of them have on one side and cause a blockage. We don't want that.

Hi I use te same one as Misskitz and mine love it. They have never peed in, but they do chew some what then I have to repalce them.

Yep I got the superpet ferret hammock for mine and he chewed it incessantly and pooped and peed in it.  I gave it to someone with a guinea pig in the hopes it would go better with their pet  :)

::silly::I had one for a long time ... I used it to put hay in for them ... as long as it was full of hay, they did not chew the hammock, but if it became empty ... it became a chew toy.   :-\

I will only use the hammocks made by Hide 'N Sleep.  Kim does the stitching in such a way that it is inside so that the hammocks cannot be easily destroyed.  They are made of high quality micro-fleece.

Yes they are easy to make, and better if you have a sewing machine.
You really need the edges folded or double thickness with the seems sewn in. I then ran right around to reinforce the edges. I punched holes at the corners, slip through 4 good strong key rings, and hung them from the wire at the top of the cage.
For one solid top, and one under a shelf I just screwed in some eyelets.
They were fun, and for those that don't pee in them they are great.
I get more use out of large cardboard tubes hung the same way though.
Funny ya know they have never peed in a tube ::)
