Help. Chin with no fur at base of tail
« on: August 15, 2009, 09:04:18 AM »

Please Help. I've had my Chin for 5 years. I've never had any issues with him. I clean his cage regularly, never see fur chewing, let him run around, etc. I've have made no changes whatsoever to his diet, location, toys, etc.

About a week ago, I noticed that there is suddenly a ring with no fur around the base of his tail. About 1" long. It's pink with a few red tiny dots.

What is this? I read a ton on the internet about fungus, but I can't find any photos that look like this? I cleaned it with some alcohol, and it wasn't bleeding or anything. My chin wasn't very happy about it tho.

Also, he is not acting any different than he usually does. He eats well, and lounges around as usual.

Any thoughts?

You really need to take him to the vet right away.  It may be possible it could spread.
