my scruffy chin
« on: June 23, 2008, 11:12:52 PM »

i have a new edition to the family. a very sweet black velvet male. hes a year old. i am his second owner. when he was young he had a accident with his wire bottom cage and is now missing a foot. this is no way has changed his temperament at all. he is very sweet and can hop just as fast as any other chinny. However he is kinda scruffy looking. he is a velvet and he is no where near as soft as my standards. his old cage mate kinda beat up on him. thats why the lady gave him to me. so i am thinking maybe now that he is out of that cage his fur will start to look better. is there anything i can do to help the process out???? he just looks so scruffy. kinda like a fighter chin with his missing paw and kinda chewed up ear. haha

You can groom chins but I've been told it can do more damage than good. Personally I would just give regular dust baths and with the proper nutrition and a couple of months I reckon it would be okay. Maybe someone else has more advice. :)

It was good of you to take him on, I'm sure he'll be very happy.

Just keep dusting him and he should start looking better!  ::nod::

It takes about 3 months for fur to grow completely back in.  Just be patient.
