General Breeder Chat / Re: Trying to Get a Timeline
« on: February 07, 2008, 08:16:34 PM »
I used to have a great method. 2 weeks after I felt kicking there were always kits. Franchesca my saphire and Gypsy my sc have gone 4 weeks with kicking with no sign of getting ready . It is all guess work and individual animals Baby tears apart her cage and demolishes everything she can 2-3 days before. Princess spends the week before not leaving the bottom of her cage etc.... IMPO they all have their own little cues.

I would highly recomend keeping Dad away until mom is at least 8 months old. I am glad the kits are doing well

The Ryersons also breed. Half of my saphire llined is ryersons, also Jags and like previously said woods. I have several litters due any day but I don't know how far you want to drive and what I will part with as I plan on keeping some.

General Breeder Chat / Re: Premature Kits
« on: January 28, 2008, 10:17:41 AM »
I have had the mohawk thing with the chinchillas. this kit ended up being a 1a when fully grown, in fact both of my kits that were extremely ugly ended up 1a's. I have a new rule here if they are ugly kits they stay.  It is hard to say if a chinchilla is premature or not, so I'm not sure. there have been some I suspected,....

I think much like people, all the roomates sometimes argue. as long as there is no cuts, bleeding or anything they should be fine

Two of my males would play fetch. They would bring me a pencil from the end of the table. On the other note if I was writing with a pencil they would grab it and try to run.... not as fun as bringing me a pencil :2funny:

My name is Kristy. I have my degree in Psychology with an emphasis in Behavioral psychology and nueroscience.  I have been working as a substitute teacher.  I enjoy working in the school system.  I have many animals here. I have 5 cats , sammy joe (siamese), smoke, wiskers, buddy amd tom.  We also have 2 dogs (black lab) Roxie and Caroline (Dalmation).  Also at my zoo is our four horses who we have had for over 14 years, Squire (morgan), storm (quarter horse), Tarma (morgan) and Jaster (morgan).
I have the chinchillas with my mom (Elaine) she is a special education teacher and a reading specialist. My dad gets dragged along to shows and such and my Boyfriend builds all my cages.
As for chinchillas I ocasionally take in rescues but I do not count those in my herd as they are kept commpletely separate. I have 26 chinchillas in my herd. I have 7 standards, 2 blacks, 3 tov ebonies, 1 brown velvet, 1 beige, 1 pastel, 2 ebonies, 1 white ebony, 1 mosaic, 1 mosaic sc, 4 standard sc and 2 saphires.

Breeding 101 / Re: Breeding & Lighting
« on: January 17, 2008, 07:27:09 PM »
I have window light, then in the evening I turn lights on in my room. I do have 3 cages that have lights in them they are naturalle floescent so I hape they don't give me more males as I already have 90% male kits...lol  But the cages with lights are only on for short times during the day.
