South West USA / Males Available in AZ, CA, NM, TX, and CO
« on: May 19, 2008, 08:06:51 AM »
At this time, I have decided to take a break from breeding chinchillas. After nearly five years of dedicating my life and energy to improving the quality of chinchillas, I will shift my focus solely to educating individuals about chinchillas and their care. Additionally, I am looking to relocate in the near future and feel that such a move would be best done without so many animals. At this time, all of my breeding pairs have either been rehomed or have been separated. The chinchillas listed here are the only chinchillas that will be available from ChinchillAZ.org for an undetermined period of time.

If you are interested in purchasing any of the available chinchillas listed below, please contact me with any questions or concerns. There is much more information (including dates of birth, breeding information, etc.) at http://www.chinchillaz.org.  All of these chinchillas are paired with a chinchilla of the same sex. These pairs allow for each chinchilla to have a buddy to keep them company throughout their lifetime. The way I look at it is this: If you already have a chinchilla that you are wanting to get a buddy for and I sell you one chinchilla and that chinchilla doesn't get along with the chinchilla you already have, you are stuck with two chinchillas in two separate cages for the rest of their lives. I'm not willing to make one of my chinchillas live alone forever when they get along perfectly with another chinchilla now.

Prices are GREATLY reduced but may be negotiated within reason. Cages of various size are also available at this time. These cages come complete with feeders, Edstrom water bottles with cage guards, wooden houses, and toys. All of these items are used.

Delivery is available within Arizona and may be possible to Southern California (specifically in mid-July), within New Mexico, to Western Texas, and up to Southern Colorado.  Shipping is not available at this time, as the weather conditions are not hospitable at this time.

Board Requests & questions / "Interest"

"All money stored in the bank gains interest at a rate of 2% per day"

Is this feature still working?  Maybe I'm just not paying close enough attention, but I'm pretty sure that I'm not getting 2% a day on the "money" I have banked.  I should be getting over 5,000 a day and that doesn't seem to be happening...

General Chat / CA State Claiming Show
« on: November 19, 2007, 11:23:37 PM »
I was finally able to make it out to my first show!  I attended the CA State Claiming Show in Santa Nella, California, on November 17th.  I took 14 chinchillas with me, intending to show only 8 of them.  I ended up adding a 9th chin when all of the big ranchers were so impressed by his size for his young age and by his silver coloring.  And a 10th was shown by his breeder since she was at the show and figured she might as well add him to her line-up.  I ended up earning four Third Place ribbons and four Second Place ribbons.  The other two chins got Fourth Place, one of which was that 9th little guy that I knew was too young to show (which is pretty much exactly what Gary Beubauer said during his comments) but that everyone else insisted I enter.  I was just glad that none of mine were taken off the table by the judges!

I snapped a few pictures of the judges deliberating over the winners as well...  Enjoy!

Reserve Grand Show Champion was a Homo Ebony owned (but not bred by) Twin's Chins.  Grand Show Champion was a TOV Ebony bred by Chin Niche.

New Births / Single Kit (11/05/07)
« on: November 06, 2007, 03:41:43 PM »
Harold and Henna brought a little surprise to my life yesterday when they welcomed their seventh litter into the world.  This litter was just one kit...  A tiny Tan male!

New Births / September Births
« on: November 06, 2007, 03:37:45 PM »
Looks like I've forgotten to post pictures of some of the babies who were born here in the last few months...

On September 1, Kalli gave birth to her seventh litter of a single male kit.  Since Kalli is a Mosaic and Kent is a Standard, I thought for sure that this little guy was a Standard.  However, as time passes, he's been lightening substantially and he may prove himself to be a Reverse Mosaic.  Time will tell!

On September 5, Gwyn gave birth to her third litter of a single male kit.  Gwyn is a Mosaic and Nougat is a Homozygous Light Tan.  This little guy has a white tipped tail and has revealed himself to be a Tan White.

On September 24, Mabel gave birth to her fourth litter of a single male kit.  Mabel is a Black Velvet and Z is a Mosaic.  This boy takes after his mommy!

South West USA / Homo Light Tan/Mosaic Breeding Pair
« on: November 06, 2007, 01:37:34 PM »

Nougat - Male Homozygous Light Tan
Born: 4 April 2005
Sire: Truffle (Dark Tan)
Dam: Topaz (Heterozygous Beige)
Bred by: Sandra Childress of SLC Ranch

Gwyn - Female Mosaic
Born: 10 August 2005
Sire: Kent (Standard)
Dam: Kalli (Mosaic)
Bred by: ChinchillAZ.org

Nougat is a Second Place Show Winner. Gwyn comes from a high quality pairing with five First Place Show Winners in her pedigree. Nougat and Gwyn have been paired together since July of 2006. Since then, they have produced three litters for a total of three Tan, one Pink White, and one Tan White offspring.  I am asking $300 for the pair.

I will be heading to the Fall Claiming Show in Santa Nella, California, on 16 November 2007. I am able to deliver chinchillas to San Diego, Los Angeles, Bakersfield, Fresno, and Santa Nella at that time. The delivery fee will be greatly reduced since this trip is already planned. All chinchillas not on hold, without sales pending, or that have not been sold by this time will be taken to the show for potential judging and sales.

I will be heading to El Paso, Texas, towards the middle of December. Delivery to Las Cruces, New Mexico, and El Paso will be available for a greatly reduced rate for this trip as well.

Delivery is always available throughout Arizona.  Shipping is now available as well, since the weather is cooling.  Each chinchilla sold comes with a care package that will last for approximately two or more weeks. This package will include pellets, hay, treats, rosehips, and oats. This should allow buyers plenty of time to obtain their own supplies, even if they have to order them online. Additionally, you will be given all pedigree information for the chinchilla. Pictures of the chinchilla may be burned to CD upon request or can be sent via email.  You can see more pictures of each of these chins at http://www.chinchillaz.org.  I am VERY picky in placing breeding pairs and am looking for a buyer who has been breeding chinchillas or who I feel is prepared to start breeding chinchillas.  Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns.  :)

South West USA / Standard/Mosaic Breeding Pair
« on: November 06, 2007, 01:32:12 PM »

Kent - Male Standard
Born: 27 March 2002
Sire: MC101 (Standard)
Dam: Opal - FB102 (Standard)
Bred by: 1WYO

Kalli - Female Mosaic
Born: 13 March 2003
Sire: F-10 (Mosaic)
Dam: F-64 (Standard Grey)
Bred by: Fur Ball Ranch

Kent and Kalli both come from high quality ranches. Kent has a very calm disposition that compliments Kalli's. Kalli comes from excellent lines with five First Place winners in her lineage. Kent and Kalli have been paired together since June of 2004. Since then, they have produced seven litters for a total of seven Standard and six Mosaic offspring. (Although their most recent litter of one male appears to be lightening substantially and may prove to be a Mosaic rather than a Standard.) Two of their offsping have been shown with one Standard obtaining a Third Place ribbon and one Mosaic taking Second Place.  I am asking $215 for the pair.

General Chat / Chinchillas from Animal Planet Pet Library
« on: November 03, 2007, 06:33:44 PM »
In September of 2007, Animal Planet released yet another book in their Pet Care Library series. This publication focused on chinchillas. After the book hit shelves, it was brought to my attention that The CHINformation Organization Forum had been listed as a web resource. I was honored, but a bit apprehensive, knowing that most books contain incorrect and even dangerous information regarding chinchillas. Promotions of the site are great, but I did not want to be associated with a publication that had the potential of doing more harm than good.

I purchased Chinchillas and read it cover to cover. I was very pleasantly surprised! Although it could stand to have better pictures of chinchillas, as most of the chinchillas pictured are less than ideal, and it states that introducing adult females is easier than introducing adult males, which I tend to disagree with, it is over-all well written. I would recommend Chinchillas in addition to lots and lots of online research to prospective chinchilla owners.

Keep in mind that even books written specifically for veterinary professional often have incorrect information and pet owner books generally aren't any better. In many ways, the best information you will collect will be from experienced chinchilla owners and breeders. Finding a chinchilla mentor you can trust can prove invaluable.

(Note: chinclub.net is also listed!  ::silly:: )

South West USA / MANY Chinchillas for Sale (AZ/CA/NM/TX)
« on: October 30, 2007, 08:55:18 PM »
In two weeks, I will be heading to El Paso, Texas, to meet up with elbatnavuope to deliver chinchillas.  This is the perfect time for anyone else in Texas to have chinchillas delivered.  elbatnavuope may very well be able to deliver chinchillas to Houston if you ask her nicely and offer to help her with pay for the gas it takes her to get to El Paso and back.

As always, delivery is possible within Arizona and potentially to Southern California.  Most of these chinchillas are already in same sex pairs which might save you the hassle of introductions.  I can also attempt introductions with another chinchilla if they are not paired with the "roommate" you want them with.  Six of the ten chinchillas being sold were awarded ribbons at the CA State Claiming Show in Santa Nella last month.

North East USA / Males to MA?
« on: August 31, 2007, 07:38:46 PM »
It looks like I'm likely going to be shipping one of my chinnies (T08) to MA in a few months.  Whenever I ship, I try to see if anyone in the area is also wanting chins of the same sex.  This would allow each person getting a chinchilla to split the cost of shipping and would allow the chins a buddy to keep them company on the flight.  I have a list of my available males at http://www.chinchillaclub.com/forum/index.php/board,23.0.html.  If anyone thinks they may be interested, let me know and we'll see what we can work out!   :::grins::

Oh my goodness!  I haven't had time to come to the forum in a very long time.  Believe me, I wasn't trying to neglect the board or any of the members.  I've missed you all!  I just was so busy with graduating and starting my new career...  I'm a veterinary technician now and loving my job!  I still don't have as much time as I'd like, but I should have enough to come add to the forums more often.   ;D
