Health / Re: Tumor and Fur chewing questions
« on: April 13, 2010, 08:19:00 PM »
After having him for a couple days, I checked it again. it seems to be more like raw skin, not much swelling more skin rolls I think. He seems to be doing ok with the dust baths, and doesn't seem to be chewing much. He is very active and out going, loves attention. He hasn't got much attenetion since may 2009 before I got him! I'm trying to get him an appointment but the only vet in our area is 45 minutes away from me and she seems to be the only one in the lower east side of Michigan! grr!

The first few minutes he was in his cage (which was given to me when I picked him up) he started chewing under his belly. He rolls and rolls and rolls in the bath like he can't get enough of it. All the others roll run around and come back to roll, he just won't leave the bath. I will try to get a better pic and I'm going to try the athlete's foot power and see what happens thanks for the help!

Health / Tumor and Fur chewing questions
« on: April 09, 2010, 08:00:50 PM »
I just received a 5 year old standard male named "Chili" as a rescue today.  He was purchased as a 1 year old from a large breeder in Michigan (not sure where)and he has a metal ear tag with a 3 digit number on it. The girl has had him for about 4 years. She lived in an apartment until she got married. She said before her apartment they lived with her parents and their pets so he was used to that. Then in May 2009 she got married and moved out of her apartment and in with her husband and his cat and dogs.  But then "Chili" started missing fur and he has been chewing on his fur since. She had taken him to the vet and was given a clean bill of health (no teeth or eye issues) just missing fur.

She thought he was fur chewing because he was lonely since she doesn't give him playtime anymore or any of her time at all to be quite honest. So she contacted me about taking him in and I went and picked him up this morning.

He is pretty bad on the fur chewing but after getting the little guy home I did a physical check myself and I noticed under his right front paw(underarm area) a bare patch that was large, swelled up and very bright red, under his left front paw(underarm area) I noticed a smaller red bare patch not bumped up as much or as large. Could this be a tumor or an issue with the fur chewing. I need to know asap if I should take him in to a veterinarian or what? I've never seen anything like this before!! Here are some pictures of the red bump and chewed fur! :-\

Q & A / Re: Help with Food/Treats
« on: April 05, 2010, 09:57:02 PM »
I've tried the rosehips and mine don't like them. One of my males actually throws them back out of the cage (usually at me) lol!! :2funny: raisins and Cheerios are a big hit with mine but because i give raisins so sparingly mine snatch and shove one in their mouth so fast then grab a second one out of the box before I can move it or even realize they even got one! lol, it's a good thing i make sure i get the smallest ones I can find!! ::)
can they have dandelions?  One of my rescues gave me a bunch of different treats and one of them was something with dandelions (can't recall what it was exactly though lol).

Definatly! It's so much better cuddling at home with my fiance then sitting in public with tons of noisy strangers all around!
The person below me loves to swim anywhere. ( a pool, pond, river, lake, ocean...anywhere)

General Chat / Re: Help I'm getting Peed on!

I don't think they were abused just not handled! the sisters were born with the lady and he had them almost a year! but i have some news on the spraying:

I had a friend bring her 17 year old daughter by tuesday night and she was playing with some of the chins, I forgot to tell her about the one that was spraying so I went into the room to tell her and she was scratching this little one through the bars and asked if she could open the cage, I was hesitant but said yes, to my surprise the little girl climbed on her outstreached hand and wanted to play! she has not taken treats from my hand either, but this girl offered her one after putting her back in her cage and she took it! I decided to let her go home with my friend and her daughter, I'm not sure what is up with that but she has had her for a few days now and there has been no spraying, no barking, no running away!  ::dancingspot::
she takes treats, wants the girl to pick her up, runs all around and climbs on the girl! It was amazing, apparently she just didn't like me LOL. but I know she has a good home and this 17 year old girl will take great care of her!!!! I just can't believe that, me with all the chins and experience and the chin hates me! rofl

General Breeder Chat / Re: TOV ebony?
« on: March 25, 2010, 07:56:01 AM »
or are they just "dirty bellied"? they are a mix of black and grey the pictrues don't do them justice thou. I was just curiuos because I am finding these rescued girls a new forever home and I had someone ask me what color they were. I don't want to sound unprofessional by not knowing what to call them!! (I'm trying my hand at rescuing! I've taken in several chins in my area and though questioning and meeting with them I am finding good careful homes) but these two need a little extra socializing so I am working with them while finding a home that I can help them work with the girls also.....sorry kinda got off topic. I would like to know what to tell potential owners about thier colors.

would these girls be considered a TOV ebony or just an Ebony? I can't figure their colors out!
both have bellies the same color as their lower fur, but they have darker fur on thier backs and one has darker fur on her head. just curious

just to let you know my grandmother has a cat that is blind! she does move slow and has run into a couple walls a few times but she can find her way around, jump on to the end tables and beds, she even walks up the flight of stairs to the guest bedrooms when someone is staying there to sleep with them at night! she is totally fine!!! Your vet was crazy to suggest that just because she has cateracts! if she had other health issues as well as the cateracts then i could see my vet suggesting that but just because of being blind? NO WAY would I have put my cat ( or anyother animal in my house) to sleep just for being blind!! You made a good choice to let her live out the rest of her life rather then end it just because she can't see!

General Chat / Help I'm getting Peed on!
« on: March 20, 2010, 08:56:16 PM »
I just rescued 3 more chins. a 2 year old ebony and her 1 year old kits (not sure what their colors would be called) one looks like my Black velvet but her belly is also a greyish black and the other looks like a VERY dark grey and her belly is the same color. Ebony Mom was bred with a standard a year year ago.

just a note on the rescue situation: a lady had 7 female chinchillas all in one cage together and she has a disability that is causing her to lose her mobility  so she couldn't care for them anymore :::(((  she put them up for adoption on a local website thing. I emailed her an went to pick up the ebony and ended up taking the daughters too!  ::)

the darker female is living with my cousin now, she is very sweet and likes to be held, petted and comes right up to the cage to get attention. but mom and the other baby are with me and my other chins. Mom is a little timid and barks when i touch her but once I have her she is ok and will just lay on me like she is just wants to cuddle. The daughter on the other hand is very aggessive and barks when you walk by the cage and sprays pee on you just for walking by....and don't even think about putting your hand in there!! I've had her for only about 8 hours and while i was adding food and hay i got peed on! or walking by i got peed on....just to name a couple of times today....  :o

i would like some help understanding why they might be doing this and why the one pees on people just for walking by, it's not like i'm trying to pick her up or anything I have only held her 2 times today. One was at the lady's house to put her in my cage,  and the second was to check her gender and move her to an actual cage instead of the carry cage they were in. but she seems to hate everyone. she peed on me about 15 times today ::beeker:: ! I'm also looking for advice on what I can do to help her not be so afraid and to stop peeing on everyone. ANY advice/ thoughts/concerns/help would be greatly appreciated!!! thank you everyone in advance.

Health / Re: Not sure if right spot for this

I guess I'm not concerned with the fact that it was fireplace ash and that they burn EVERYTHING in it: wood, paper, plastics, cardboard from his work garage (that may have had oil on it). Thank you for answering. And I guess everything is ok then. I was just curious.
