Health / Re: Chinchillas near rabbits? Help!
« on: November 28, 2018, 06:37:41 PM »
You can get the rabbit tested at a vet. This can give you peace of mind and you will be able to keep the chin and rabbit in the same room if the rabbit comes back negative. Obviously they would still need kept apart but the same room would be fine.

Breeding 101 / Re: Week old kit, is Mom okay?

A chinchilla should never be spayed unless medically needed. The surgery has a lot of Ross and no benefit.
Remaining fluid is normally a sign of heart issues. Is this vet knowledgeable about chins? I'm concerned that they are not since they advised kitten milk which is not good for a chinchilla kit. The excess protein and lower fat make it very hard for a kit to thrive

Tilting to the side is often due to inner ear infections. Him dragging the leg may be due to an injury from the head tilt/balance issues. I would seek a vet.

Q & A / Re: Reptile accessories safe for chins?

I would say no since im not familiar with the material. I use glass bowls or ash trays since they can not chew those. Or you can always add a second wall mounted bowl

Aneth that often will kill her kidneys eventually. By the time you notice the teeth need done, the chin has been in pain for a while. THen the procedure plus recovery every 3 months... thats more than half the chins live in misery. Its really not fair to the chin to continue your current treatment plan. Any vet that willingly does dental work without aneth is going against the avma code of ethics and personally i wouldnt trust them

A tov gray is a black velvet. He is not a black velvet. Hes a regular standard gray. What you are seeing as dark frosting is his veiling

Please do not get him a female as a friend. He will get along with a male just as well. Breeding is not something to take lightly.

You will want to give him probiotics to help repopulate the bowel. URI can take 1-3 weeks for the chin to go back to normal. Watching eating/pooping is a very important thing. You can also weigh him if you have any doubts.

Q & A / Re: Need help for chinchilla with a dental problem
« on: January 19, 2017, 09:10:52 PM »
Were xrays done? can you post pics of them? What dental problem did he have?
Please be aware that dental problems will happen again, they are not curable. You need to be force feeding him till he starts eating. Are you weighing him to see if hes holding his weight? Thats important to know

Alfalfa is fine to give most chins but it can cause softer stools. If you notice that, then switch back to timothy or a grass hay
