HAHAHA  rofl i love chinnys even more now. they act like children but are much easier to clean up after (unless Ottis decides to get mad because he didnt get to come out of his cage so he threw his carefresh at us) ....
Ottis was banging on the walls of the cage and id look up and he'd be trying to squeeze himself out of the cage (all he can get is his nose) and was angry so we took him out but he knows he can't come out unless he gets into our hands for us to carry him to the bathroom... but man chinnys act like little two year olds if they don't get their way!!

Ottis doesn't really seem to pay attention to TV much though, we were watching My name is earl reruns and he didn't really do much, then we watched a couple movies and no response so maybe he is just not interested.. lol but he sure does love doing the living room 500 where he runs around counter clock wise a million times..

well Ottis is back at disney land and boy was he happy... and unfortunately i can't afford to buy another FN182 for him at my parents when this was really an emergency situation from the storms... so Ottis had to deal with a basic cage with toys in it.. and i played with him a lot too...  :D

The best place also to keep an eye on your chinny from getting into things is the bathroom.. put towels down in the sink and tub and let him/her have the run of the bathroom (toilet seat down too!) and this way they bond with you :) and this way your mom could play and bond too if she took him/her out in the bathroom to play.. I know Ottis was stressed after the horrible storm and moving him to my parents, and he'll come back with me to the boyfriends since thats where his disney land cage is (FN182) lol.. I know Ottis is pissed because i come home from work to poop thrown on the floor he throws his food bowl and his hay EVERYWHERE... but when we play in the bathroom hes as sweet as can be... Plus Ottis was stressed and made those awful barking noises at me the first night here at my parents. so for your sake and your chinnys i agree with mojito and limit it to two times a year

General Chat / Re: My new Chin won't let me anywhere near him, help?
« on: July 01, 2012, 05:43:43 PM »
Hi there :) My Ottis is about 4 months old or so and i've had him going on week three now..
At first Ottis would come out of his cage and hide under the chair for hours.... Week two got better, he would come to us and jump on us (my boyfriend and i) and come to us and take treats from us and over the weekend Ottis jumped all over me and would sit on my shoulder.
What I found from this website is that bonding with your chinny takes a LOT of time and PATIENCE!!!!!! that of which i hate haha :) but going into a smaller bathroom and putting towels down over the sink and tub etc makes it easier to bond with ottis because the small room makes him have to cross me at some point.. Just sit still and let him come to you and dont make sudden movements and talk realllly soft to them no screaming lol. :) Don't take your new chinny casper out until i'd say week 3 to see if hes improving.. I play and work on the computer next to Ottis' cage and talk to him occasionally when hes not sleeping.

He now comes to the cage to greet me when he knows its play time :) its such a great feeling...

hope this helps!  ;)

Q & A / Re: Custody?

the great thing is chinchillas sleep during the day.. so since your parents live so close.. keep your chinny at your moms in a nice quiet location and go play with him at night for 30-45 minutes (which im sure your dad wont miss you TOO terribly while you are gone lol) The only issue is he might complain because its "his time" with you... you know how parents can be after divorces. mine aren't divorced (im also 25) but most of my friends were growing up so I know.. You can always message me if you need anything

Take care!

Rebecca

To be honest, moving them especially in heat is stressful for them. We had a horrible storm here last night (friday night) and Ottis stays at my boyfriends place and I was staying with my parents for the weekend because I hadn't seen them in a while. I had to go get Ottis at 2am because the power went out.. trust me it was such a stressful drive because he doesn't understand what is going on, Its muggy outside (I had the AC on in the car) and then trying to get him set up temporarily here was a pain in the neck.

He is doing okay today and will go back to Andrew's on Wednesday in the early morning/late evening when I get off work and its much cooler.  I could tell Ottis was so mad at me yesterday and I would never want to put him through that stress again.  Where do you usually stay? Your moms or dads? Keep them at your main house, just make sure whatever parent that is takes care of it while you are gone. How far away do your parents live from eachother?

« on: June 30, 2012, 11:01:56 PM »
that looks pretty awesome. but i will tell you this.. in a week you will buy a new cage.. and it will be the Ferret or Critter Nation cage.. Why? because I was a new mom two weeks ago and we bought ottis a new bigger cage for him to run in when we aren't around.. he LOVES it. 4 floors! haha
:)

Welcome to being a chinchilla mommy.. i love it!!!

Q & A / Weird noises.
« on: June 30, 2012, 09:09:10 PM »
I took Ottis out of the cage tonight for play time in the bathroom and he was fine then he hid behind the toilet and started making weird noises at me. he'd do them and look directly at me.. he'd like "pffft" and then make these squeeking noises... i hope i didnt make him mad

Here is a video of Ottis being noisy: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SQI0bMIk6WE&feature=context-gau

well since hes relocated due to these horrible storms (they called them rare and "derecho") i put a fleece blanket to line the new cage at my parents..... i think hes a little irritated with me but hopefully he'll get over it and understand hecouldn't stay at home without power.. lol
