Health / Re: Constipated Chin and first time sick chin mom
« on: January 27, 2012, 08:03:16 PM »
It is disappointing when the vet doesn't carry what you need (Oxbow critical care). After all the reading I have done and found out when chins get sick they can go down fast or even have gassy bellys or their eyes are irritated etc....I have made my own first aid kit for my chin including the critical care from Oxbow. I feel better knowing I have things on hand I may need...hopefully not!! Good luch:)

Health / Re: Dry Chin Ears
« on: January 27, 2012, 07:42:56 PM »
I noticed that with my chin. I used to give him dust baths every other day and I believe that was causing his dry skin so I cut down to two times per week and seems to be working. I also noticed it is very dry in the house and that does not help but I am afraid if I get a pot of boiling water going and the humidity goes up too much he might overheat...I hoped this helped a little:)

Q & A / Re: Dustbath Questions
« on: January 27, 2012, 07:37:27 PM »
Are chins suppose to pee in one spot???? When I had my old cage he peed in one corner. I received a new cage for christmas and I noticed he started peeing in different spots...Is this normal???? I got concerned today when I pulled out some of his hay (the stuff he discards on the floor) and found he peed only because that is where his food and water are... ???

Q & A / Re: Question about different hay choices.
« on: January 27, 2012, 07:30:05 PM »
Regarding the hay: I buy Oxbow but recently bought Kaytee western timothy hay as I have come across what I think is a problem. I noticed the Oxbow timothy hay is rather hard like straw???? Isn't it suppose to be more green??? I offered both the hays to my chin figuring he would eat the one he liked most but to my surprise he ate them both....My ultimiate question is what is hay suppose to look like???? I have seen dark green with a lot of dark brown in it (appeared rotten to me) and then I see yellow....lime green.....dark green and they are all western timothy hay.

Q & A / Re: My chinchilla's personality hasn't improved much..
« on: January 27, 2012, 07:23:19 PM »
I have had my chinchilla for almost three months now. He does not like me picking him up even to put him in his playpen which he loves! He shakes like a leaf when I do pick him up. I talk  softly to him to try to reassure him it's ok then he stops shaking after a few minutes. He too is very spoiled! It's been almost three months and I have seen improvement in his personality. It takes time...... ::silly::

Q & A / Re: chin sounds?
« on: January 23, 2012, 08:25:09 PM »
He is about ten years old. I received him at the end of October. The only thing that changed was his surrondings....I moved his super sleeper and other stuff around in his cage but put everything back the way it was shortly after. Is he lonely??? Nothing else has changed....he also sleeps until late at night...10pm maybe then starts the shananagans, lol. Thanks again ???

Q & A / chin sounds?
« on: January 22, 2012, 09:15:08 PM »
When my chin is resting....not really sleeping....he makes noises about five to seven in a row. It sounds like he was almost coughing maybe whimpering or the cat having trouble with a hairball. That is the best way I can explain it. What does this mean??? Thanks ::)
