General Chat / Do you do Chin rescue?
« on: October 14, 2017, 08:21:07 PM »
I have posted a bunch on here about my froster chins. I have 14 left and I do not think it will be easy to find homes for these guys. All but 4 are old or have a problem. I did find my 3 legged chin a home so I will not give up hope.

So I had 50 Chins to find homes for 2 had to be put down. I only have 14 chins left but I am getting ready to keep at least 10 of the elderly ones. These guys are a mess and I am taking it one day at a time.

So have any of you ever fostered or helped a chin rescue? has anyone ever had to re-home a breeding heard?

I would love to hear your rescue stories. Even if it was just one chin you helped.

It has been very rewarding doing this and if I find all 14 chins a home I will rescue more unwanted chins. These little animals got me good. I love them. I said I would not keep any when I first sign up for this. So far I kept 2 and I think I will keep 2 more. I will also keep the old ones for as long as I have to. So I might just be a retirement home for chins.  These guys have found a safe home here with me.

PS. If you live in Nor Cal or Nor NV and are looking to adopt a chinchilla in need let me know.

Here are some of the ones that have found happy homes.

Health / Bad eye and running in circles.
« on: October 14, 2017, 03:49:44 PM »
I have my last batch of rescues 14 sad old chins. This is a rough batch it will not be easy to place them almost all of them have problems or are elderly.

So the one I want to talk about today is a old male. I was told he got into a fight years ago and his eye was damaged. Yeah his eye looks dead. This same Chin will run in a fast circle stop and looks dizzy. He is old 10 or 15 years old would be my guess but all that info is lost.

He eats and gets around but I wonder if this running thing is caused by something more.

here is his eye.

He has been good about taking a dust bath so that will help.

Health / Missing foot rescue.
« on: September 23, 2017, 07:32:02 PM »
So I got another batch of rescues. After I rehome these I will have only 14 left to find homes for. So far this has been very rewarding I have been able to place some chins in some very loving homes. It has also been heart breaking too.

out of my first batch I had to put down 2 Chins due to very bad Malocclusion. Now I have one beige that is thin and I not looking the best. On top of that I have a skinny one with a missing foot. One Chin I left but should have taken has a really really bad eye it is cloudy and big.

With this new one that is missing a foot I would like to fatten him up is I can. I am not sure if I should try and save him but I feel like I should. I am keeping the sad beige one to see if he will get better with more care. He takes dust bathes now.

South West USA / re-homing a breeding herd. We have 30 more.
« on: September 14, 2017, 08:52:48 PM »
I have 10 Chinchillas 4 I have on hold for people.  Have placed 16 with my first batch. this is my second batch of rescues I take 10 at a time.

There are still 30 chins from this breeding herd that need a home. Our Aunt Lynn Titlow bred these little animals for many years. She passed away a year ago from cancer.  I am the only person trying to help these little animals. I have started my own rescue. If anyone in the Nor Cal or Nor NV area wants to foster or adopt let me know. I would like to get all these chins into foster care at least. They are being neglected where they are.

I ask a small adoption fee of $20.

Here are some of the ones I have now.

Q & A / 2 males in one cage 2 females in the other. Same room?
« on: September 14, 2017, 04:35:32 PM »
Hi I would like to keep 4 of my foster chinchillas. 2 male and 2 females. I would like to keep each pair in the separate cages but in the same room next to each other. Is this a bad Idea. Or Maybe I will keep 3 males in one big cage?

i am thinking keep just 2 males would be the way to go.

General Chat / Pairing up males.
« on: September 14, 2017, 11:51:30 AM »
So my husbands Aunt Lynn was a chinchilla breeder in Nor Cal. She bred for years and had up to 100+ Chins. Well we are down to 30 now. I have been fostering and adopting out small batches at a time. Right now I have 10 but 4 are claimed so that is nice. I kept a male female from the last batch because my male just paired up perfectly with her. The problem is I want to pair up my Male to another young male from this batch of fosters.

Both males are mosaic and sadly all the info on the Chins was lost when Lynn passed. I have a feeling these 2 males could be related maybe father son. The first time they met was yesterday in the play room. They took a dust bath together they sniffed each other. BUT the older one did mount the young one a few times and the last time fur was pulled. SO I took them apart.

These are 2 of the sweetest Chins I have had out of the 20 fosters I took in so far. Lynns Mosaics are so sweet all have had the best temperments.

So I have read that boded pairs can turn on each other for no reason after years of living together. This scares me. How often have you had a chin turn on his male cage mate? Could having a female around cause the paring of males to not go as well?

I have so many Chins to pick from it is hard.

One more thing. Can I keep 2 males in the same room as 2 females? Or will they fight when a female goes into heat?
