Q & A / chin poop too soft
« on: October 31, 2012, 03:09:00 PM »
Hello,

For 4 days now my chin's poop is not as hard as it usually was. It's not liquid but it's very soft.
2 weeks ago i gave him fresh wheat. After that i kept his normal food. The vet told me i could give him fresh wheat.

Now for almost 2 weeks his diet is normal but his poop is still soft.

What should i do? Give him some mint tea?

Thank you.

Conformation and Quality / Standard chin - is he pure breed?
« on: September 18, 2012, 07:51:08 AM »
Hello,

I read on the forums that you can never know if a chin is pure breed if you get it from the store. Is there anyway to tell if my chin is pure breed just from pictures?

Oh, and he is around 1 year and 2-4 months old from what the store told me. I had him for a year now and i think he is smaller from what i can see on the forums. Is he going to get bigger? (i like him like this :) )

Thank you
Dan

General Chat / Optimal temperature for chins
« on: September 14, 2012, 06:41:40 AM »
Hello,

I have read many times about this before and after i got my chin (1 year ago) and i have that more than 24C is critical for a chin. I tend to disagree.
My chin Pufica has been living in about 28C for the whole summer sometimes the temp went to 30C or 31C. 99% of the time my air conditioning was set to 28C.

I must say he is very happy even at 31C jumping and pop-corning like hell. At first i was afraid after reading all about this on the internet but now I know for sure he is ok over 24C. I did not have 31C for more than 3 hr till i realized and turned on the AC. It did not seem to bother him :)

Do they adapt to the local weather?

Thank you

Q & A / strange behavior
« on: May 22, 2012, 03:09:12 PM »
Hello,

My chin Pufy started 2 weeks ago to pee in the room. He even wanted (and partially succeeded) to pee on my bed. I have him since December 2011 and he did  not pee outside the cage until now.

Why is he doing this? Is he trying to tell me something?

He is not peeing on the floor but only on the couch or on the bed. I see when he wants to do this because he has some kind of a "dance ritual" before peeing...

Thank you for your reply.

Q & A / Chin food and treats
« on: May 04, 2012, 09:25:59 AM »
Hello,

I am a little bit worried about my chin. I am feeding him hay and pellets and chin food from the pet store but in the last month i gave him walnuts (half or a quarter of the pulp) every night i got him back to his cage. He really loves walnuts.
The bad thing is i just read here on the forums that walnuts are a big "no go" for the chins, because of the liver problems.
My question is: what to give him as a treat now that i used him with treats?

Any idea?
Thanks

Dan

Q & A / Spoiled chinchilla
« on: March 21, 2012, 09:37:52 AM »
Hi All,

I am new here and I have a chin since December 2011. He is almost 7 month old i think (the pet store owner could not tell me for sure).
I think i spoiled him too much. He is calling me when he needs attention and that's ok. He called me when the got stuck behind the furniture or in other places.
Sometimes he is calling me at night and each time i am going to him and pet him for few minutes.

2 nights ago he called me, i talked to him and told him to sleep and tried to go to sleep myself. I did not even touch the pillow with my head and he called me again. I went to him and pet him.
Went back to bed and after 5 min he started screaming again. He just sits in front of the cage door looking at me and calls me. I did not get out of bed and he kept barking for another 2 hours at an interval of 10 min. After that i get out of bed and pet him for few min. When i got back in bed he started again and continued like this for almost an hour.

The cage is 3 meters from my bed. He can see me and knows i'm there.
Last night it was ok, he let me sleep in peace.

Is he a spoiled little fur ball? Should i be worried if he calls me all night? If i let him out of the cage he is the happiest chin alive. His poop is ok, he drinks water, he eats well and he plays alot. I see no sign of illness.
You can see photos of him uploaded by me today.

What is your opinion about this?

Thanks
Dan
