General Chat / Strange question
« on: March 05, 2009, 12:26:41 PM »
I'm not sure if its possible but I'd thought I'd ask anyway.  Can a chinchilla and a rabbit live together in the same cage? I have 1 rabbit (spayed) and 2 chins (1 fixed, 1 intact).  I know some rabbits and guinea pigs can live together. My rabbit gets along well with my cats and my dog, as do my chinchillas. My chins are older. One is 10, the other is 5. My rabbit, Saphira, is about 10mo.

They're already living in the same room together.

Thanks,
Jess

General Chat / What's a good age to spay a chinchilla?
« on: July 31, 2008, 08:05:32 PM »
I know it's really not recommended but my female gave birth today to 2 kits.  One is male and the other is female.  The male is already spoken for and I may end up keeping the little female.  I was considering getting mom done as well.  All my other chins are boys, one of which is neutered and I want them to live in the same cage together.  I had one of my rescues spayed and it went well.  I have a good vet that I trust very much.

I know rabbits are around 4 months of age.  Are chins around 8mo or so?

Thanks

Health / Shedding a lot.....need advise
« on: April 02, 2008, 09:58:22 AM »
I sold one of chins to a girl I work with, this was a little less then a month ago.  She had mentioned to me that he was shedding a lot and thought it could be from stress but she called me today and said he's still doing it so he's being returned to me.  I had never noticed it while he was in my household.  She said it's not coming out in clumps, he's just shedding like a dog or cat would.  Does anyone know why or what it could be?  None of my other chins have this issue.

Thanks

I tell my husband everyday how much I love my new Jeep. It's an 04 and it's loaded with all kinds of goodies. My favorite is the heated leather seats.

General Breeder Chat / Very Excited!!

Over the weekend I put my mosaic vc boy in with my dark violet girl. They got along great right from the start. I had the male in with another pair, who are both fixed and I think he was depressed. As soon as I put him in the female, he started to groom her. :) I think they'll have to be a forever pair. I'll just have to get him fixed eventually.

Other Pets / My little Arwen 12/10/04-11/29/07

I came home to find my poor little girl hanging upside down in her cage. She was still warm when I got to her and I believe she was still breathing but by the time I got her lose and got to the vet, she was gone. Somehow her foot got stuck in one of the little squares. I use Martins Cages. I was so traumatized, I cried the entire ride to the vet. She almost made it to her 3rd b-day.

Q & A / Grooming question
« on: December 02, 2007, 03:21:04 PM »
I don't think my standard girl is grooming herself.  Her fur looks awful and giving her a dust bath doesn't seem to help. It's hard to describe how it looks but its almost like she's slipped her fur but it's all over. She just had her first litter in Sept and the kits are now weaned.  What could be causing this?  Which # comb can I purchase to comb her out?  She's eating and drinking and eating hay and she's acting fine, its just her fur issue.

Thanks.

General Breeder Chat / How many of you.....
« on: November 07, 2007, 10:52:14 AM »
have someone fill out a questionaire of some sort before purchasing a chin?  I've really been considering doing this b/c I want to know that the people I'm selling my chins to, are knowledgable and know what they're doing.

Thanks,
Jess

Chit Chat / Counting down the days until my next tattoo!
« on: November 07, 2007, 09:38:13 AM »
I currently have 7 and my next one will be a portrait of my dog, Kira.  She's our first dog and she means so much to my husband and I.  I also have a tat of one of my chins, Cody.  I'm also thinking of getting one of a crested gecko.  We have 3 of them and they are the neatest little creatures. :)

This is the actual picture I'm using for the tattoo.

Guestbook / Hello from PA!

Hi Everyone,

I just wanted to say hello and that I'm happy to be here.  I've owned chinchillas for several years now but just recently started breeding.  I work for a veterinary clinic as a receptionist but I'm going back to school to be a vet tech.  I love animals so much. :) I look forward to getting to know all of you.
