General Chat / Re: My chin has a weird humping issue help!!

I have thankfully never had to deal with that but many people have...getting him a mate would only increase the frequency not change the situation for the better just push him away when he attempts to mount your arm be consistent and eventually he will get the idea

Some chinchillas just don't like hay. I have several hundred chinchillas and alternate between loose and cubed hay.  Some goble up the loose some just don't touch it, some eat the cubes leaving no evidence there was ever any hay there some barely touch thiers.  It may have nothing to do with the petstore you got her from. Some people like salad some people won't touch anything green.

General Breeder Chat / Re: lost a viable kit for the first time
« on: March 03, 2015, 05:30:10 PM »
Sometimes it is just failure to thrive and no explanation can ever be found. One of the sad facts of breeding. The say on average  12-25% of kits are lost a year

General Chat / Re: chinchilla introduction still not working
« on: March 03, 2015, 05:26:19 PM »
Unfortunately sometimes it just cannot be made to work. If you try to force it someone may end up getting hurt. Often it is very very hard to try to introduce a third animal to an already bonded pair

Often there is nothing you can do to stop fur chewing. try quiet areas of the house and do your best to reduce stress

only a small percentage of Malo is found to be genetic. most Malo is dietary related or from an injury. If it is the root rowing there is no amount of medical procedures that will make him ok. Before you go to that what are you feeding? everything including treats and does your chinchillas have ample access to hay some chinchillas  can get weepy eyes when not provided hay

Health / Re: 7 week old baby - soft stool
« on: February 13, 2015, 08:17:45 AM »
Babies need rest. Limit playtime no more than 15 minutes at at time, lots of hay. Most breeders wean at 8 weeks and keep an additional week to be sure they are fine on their own. slightly squishy is something to watch but not something to be panicked about
