I went through pyrometra with one of my females.
She had discharge and we got antibiotics. They helped. It came back about six months later. More baytril and it was fine. About four months after that I came home from work to a seriously ill chinchilla. She had the surgery after another week of baytril. She came out okay and was back to normal within two weeks.

I had a situation where I had to separate my two chinchillas which lover together because one has to get surgery. After she healed and recovered I tried to put them with each other again and the chinchilla that didn't have surgery wanted no part of the other anymore.

I ended up buying another cage and had them side by side. The chinchilla that had surgery was clearly depressed about being alone. I ended up getting a male kit from a private breeder. The same day I brought him home I put the adult chinchilla with him and she instantly bonded with him and took on the role of a mother. I suppose I got lucky with that. They are now paired up and the other chinchilla loves happily alone.

I guess some warning signs of a lonely/depressed chinchilla would be sitting in one spot and staring. You can see it in their eyes too if they constantly look tired it may be a good sign of loneliness or depression.

This is just my own experience with loneliness or depression in chinchillas.

Hello! Do you remember a few years ago you did a little experiment where you hooked a counter up to your chinchilla wheel and got a rough estimate of how much ground was covered? Do you remember the results of that?

Generally speaking, if they are making soft beeps while out of the cage it can mean they are content. It can also mean they are sending out contact calls.
Gray is right though, they can make a large array of sounds.
I have two females that are usually pretty quiet but then I have a boy who won't ever shut up when he's out and about haha.

My chinchillas seem to get bored of everything other than. Apple sticks as well, although, they do still chew the pumice blocks. Any type of safe wood is good...
If you want to an idea of stuff look at chinchilla2shop. It's a UK site but it will give you an idea of things.

Also, are you sure your chinchilla is just bored and there isn't anything else going on?

I might be too late on this but if there is white discharge from your female then take to her to a vet immediately.

It might not be anything...BUT....there is a chance it could be pyrometra or a vaginal infection. I went through this with a female I have and it ended up being pyrometra. She ended up needed surgery after a reoccurring issue. If it is pyrometra and caught early then baytril should sort it out but it WILL come back. Whether it's a year or two years later. Unfortunately, getting a female spayed is the only way to permanently fix the situation if it is pyrometra.

Yeah it's normal. All of my Chins have and do bark from time to time in their sleep. Who knows what they are dreaming about.

I'd just like to back up grayrodent here. No fresh fruit ever or dried fruit. People do give goji berries as an alternative to raisins but in all honesty....none of that is doing any favours for your chins health. You can get other herbs such as plantain and nettle and mix in with the hay to promote foraging though.

I currently use beaphar chinchilla care plus which many say is the best pellet you can get for Chins

One of my chinchilla has a skin tag on her ear that looks very similar. If you are really worried about it you should see a vet. I have no knowledge of skin tags or what they mean. I've watched the one on my Chins ear since we have had her and it has never changed and she seems healthy so I am guessing it is nothing to worry about
