Q & A / Re: The kids are fighting
« on: July 11, 2007, 01:34:30 PM »
I have to agree with Jaime, with your limited knowledge of chinchillas in the first place, combined with no knowledge of the background, putting them together is a BAD idea.  Please reconsider.  Keep them in separate cages :)

Awwww Jenova, again don't beat yourself up.  You certainly didn't let it happen intentionally.  Just keep watching to make sure he gets better.  Congrats on the new kit!

General Breeder Chat / Re: Thoughts on Certain Mutations?
« on: June 18, 2007, 11:30:00 AM »
Jo Ann, if I've said it once, I've said it a million times that violet wrap is STUNNING.  If you can't figure out what to breed her with, send her my way, I can add her to my violet line  ::)

I would have to agree with Jo Ann, it will probably be a long time before the MCBA recognizes these new color combinations that are popping up.  And for them to be of show quality, well that'll be even longer :)

Did anyone else here see that eb that won GSC at Nationals?  I was down at Whitewoods before Nationals and had my eye on him, as well as another breeder near me, but Dave wouldn't sell him.  Now I know why  :::grins::

General Breeder Chat / New Breeders.....Kinda of a vent?
« on: June 18, 2007, 11:22:53 AM »
Okay, I know we all started somewhere.  In fact I haven't been into breeding mutes for too long, standards for some time before that.  But where do all the new breeders keep coming from and why?  ::shrug::  Most of the time the answer I hear is to have babies, their sister, aunt, cousin, or whatever wants one, but whats going to happen to all these baby chins?  What happens when there are no more homes for these kits?  Or what happens when a whole bunch of kits maloccludes because these new "breeders" use bad stock?

I know some people may have different views on the subject, and of course there is going to be new breeders, thats how we keep bettering the species.  But what about those who are just in it for cuteness and money?

I don't know, maybe I'm just thinking a rant to myself and shouldn't even hit Post to this, but does anyone else feel this way?  Or am I just overly paranoid? ;)  It seems like everyone is a chinchilla "breeder" these days.........

Debbie of course you may ask!  We had a son born August of 2005, and he passed away in December 2005 from SIDS or Sudden Infant Death Syndrome.  I'm sure you've heard of it before though :)  So the wires go to a belt around Noah's chest and it monitors his heart rate and breathing, and if something were to happen that he would stop breathing it makes this PIERCING alarm that blows your eardrums ;)  Its more just precautionary than anything.  So I can get some sleep at night ;)  If you want to see pictures of Zachary, you can see them here:  www.rothermelsracingsupply.com/zachary.html and theres a short story as well :)

Colby is just adorable.  I love the little hat in your thumbnail picture!  I can just picture him playing with a chip bag as well, hey whatever they like!  The things you would never expect to be entertaining suddenly are  :2funny:

Noah just had a dr. appt for a rash on his face :(  It'll go away but it looks ugly to me.  But anyway, he was up to 10lbs!  At just six weeks old!  I couldn't believe it, thats a four lb. gain since birth.  Here is two pictures from today of him in his new seat.  And guess what, thats a BABY chinchilla with him!  :)  3 months old the kit is.  I also got his FIRST REAL SMILE at me today on camera.  I'll post that picture too :)

North East USA / In search of exceptional standard male
« on: May 22, 2007, 05:13:43 PM »
Well I am located in PA, and I am looking for an exceptionally high quality standard male.  I want to pair her with my homo eb, who recieved the following comments at the show:  2nd place- "This animal is casty and showing some slight red.  I'd like to see more size for her age. If you are breeding this animal be very careful of who you put it with"

So Im looking for a standard with exceptional clarity and a beautiful blue hue to it.  I am going to pair her with him when she gets old enough (4 more months) so I have a little time to look around.  I would prefer an adult who maybe has been shown already?  But no young kits please.

If you have what Im looking for please let me know :)

Thank you!

Oh, Im located in Eastern PA!
