Q & A / Re: Need quick wood help
« on: July 07, 2010, 06:37:17 PM »
i made most of my ledges out of a 1x10x8 plank of pine. it was a lot cheaper to buy one board rather than buy precut. I think it was $11 for the one plank.

I will take more pics on saturday. the whole cage is made of untreated pine. the only thing they have chewed on is the house that I made them, and they have definately made it their own.

I am sorry for your loss.
I have been considering breeding my Sapphire when she gets old enough, but some of the horror stories are making me reconsider. I dont know if i can put a mother through that or not.

leave the cages just far enough apart that they cannot bite eachother. They will probably vocalize quite a bit ( mine did ) and squabble but they cant hurt eachother. After a few days, let them get a little closer. Some chins just will not blend together at all.

First, Welcome to the forum.
sorry to hear about your loss, I would imagine it is really hard. I am in Oklahoma and i know a very good breeder in Tecumseh Oklahoma, my Sapphire female is from him. My first Chin i bought from petsmart and she is a psycho chin for sure.

I use kild dried pine for my personal chins and my rescues. The aspen tended to give me splinters. Maybe it was just the brand tho.

they dont see as well in the light as they do in dark. mine have been out in the light and ran into walls before. Or maybe we just have some lazy-eyed chins. ;)

Q & A / Re: White Birch Wood
« on: June 16, 2010, 03:37:21 PM »
From what I understand, any wood that they can chew on needs to be kiln dried. If its a fresh cut, it will have sap in it that could be harmful for your chin. This is just what I have read on the internet, Nobody that I have seen on here, has said it. Worth at least being aware of tho.
