Web site Reviews / Re: Elm Chinchillas website

The site looks very nice and simple. The colors fit together well. The pictures are well placed in the different articles. A couple of suggestions. In the front page, you could add a little more introductory information about chinchillas to whet people's appetites. Also, rather than have one big chinchilla picture on the front page, you could consider a few smaller pics. Overall, it's a very good site.

If you like, you could look our site to see a front page with some intro information. (And if you want to review forchins too, that would be great)

We added a new section on our website, a breeders directory. If anyone is a breeder and wants to add themselves, feel free to do so. Go to the site and click "Directory" and click "Add Entry" then fill out the info.

Yes, Small Pet Club is also run here. You mean add a ferret section on the forum? There is no ferret section because no ferret people have joined. If a person requests a small animal to be added, we will add a section of it.
Very nice! I have one question, do you run Small Pet Club and if so why don't you have ferrets listed there?

Thanks for the feedback. I incorporated some of the changes you suggested. The gallery is based on certain software so that one is difficult to modify.

I have an interesting story about spelling. When looking at the stats of my site, I noticed that people were finding my site through a search for "chnchilla". Well, if you do a search for "chnchilla" on Yahoo or Google, see what you get. Sometimes misspelling can be to your advantage.

I could add a few comments on the site.
I assume the site is generally to advertise your chinchillas and the front page does a good job of doing that. It gives your location and the types of chinchlllas available as well as a little information about you as a breeder.

A couple of suggestions:
1. The site could work well with a narrower width. There's a lot of white space in the middle and a narrow width could fill it up nicely. You can look at sites like Yahoo.com or The New Nork Times site as examples of how the narrow width can reduce whitespace in the middle.
2. The modules on the left side of the page looks uneven. Some have a light blue header and some have a dark blue header. If the header-body-footer colors and layout of each module look the same, it could make the left side look more cohesive.

Overall, I can see a lot of work went into the site and there are a lot of good things such as the product reviews so great job.

The site has a lot of information and the color scheme looks good. The one big thing I noticed is that the front page looks empty. You could try to put some introduction on the front page or some pictures of chinchillas. You could also try arranging the menu so that they take two columns instead of three. There's a lot of neat stuff on the site such as the railroad and veterinarian listing.

I'll review your site. It generally looks good and has a lot of information, though I don't have time to read it all at the moment. There are a couple of things I suggest.

1. The menu is at the bottom on some of the pages. It might be better if you can put it at the top since a lot of people might miss the menu if it's at the bottom.
2. Some of the links are blended into the backgroud. I can barely see the links on this page: http://luvnchins.com/photo.html -- I do like the picture index though.

A lot of modern sites today have a fixed menu for navigating to different sections. Here is an example: http://www.edchinchillas.co.uk/
That doesn't mean you have to do the same, but it could be something to think about if you decide someday to do a major renovation of the site. Hope that helps.

Board Requests & questions / suggestion: chinchilla website reviews
« on: September 04, 2006, 09:14:21 PM »
Since several people have websites about chinchillas, maybe there could be a website review section. Several reasons:

1. You can show off your website and get feedback about what is good and what isn't so good.
2. People can see good chinchilla websites out there.
3. Probably the most important, is that others can point out if your website has incorrect information. There are several controversial issues of course, "such as should I feed raisens?", and these could go rouond and round, but at least some of the obvious mistakes can be pointed out.

The other chinchilla forums (except Chinchillas Unlimited in the UK) don't have this feature so it could be someting unique for this forum. The problem with website reviews is there has to be good guidelines behind them or they turn into spam or arguments. Here are a few rules from other website review forums as an example:

No sorry, I don't think that is possible.

Have you looked at this:

http://mods.simplemachines.org/index.php?mod=252

It's for SMF 1.1 but if you make a request, someone might make it compatible with 1.0.7.

Q & A / Re: peeing in the food dish
« on: June 29, 2006, 10:55:48 AM »
I had a problem with a chnchilla peeing on it's dish. I found that the best way to prevent them from doing this is to make it inconvenient for them to pee in the dish. I have an attached crock and put a sleep-n-ledge above it so they can't easily back into the dish and pee in it. There was just enough room for them to eat their pellets, but not enough for them to sit on the dish. Once they get used to not peeing there, you can take the ledge out if you like.
