Q & A / Age difference

Hi everyone...I have a young male born May 21/09..and a older male that I just got from someone , he came from a petstore..they had him just over a year. Is it at all possible to house them together ? If you think it might work.. how would you try them ?

Hi Debbie,, yes he does have pink ears..and in person , he does look beige compared to grey in the picture.. I have 3 young males all born in May..I tried letting them all out lastnight for their playtime along with the bigger beige male.. I don't think any of them will beable to be housed with him..no one seemed to like him for some reason. I may end up just leaving him in his own cage as he is now.  The young couple had him for over a year.. he is much older then my others.. so he may be better just left alone.

Well my plan is .. I just separated a female into her own cage..she was housed with a male for 4 months.. so pregnancy is something I will have to wait and see.. I'm waiting to hear from my breeder I got 3 of my chins from about a female he has.. if I get her..I plan to house the 2 in their own cages side by side.. maybe within time they will get to know each other.. and they may beable to be housed together ?  I will keep them separate and see how it goes first..and off course make sure the first female isn't pregnant..so they will be kept apart for at least the next 2-3 months..

Any advise will help in this matter.

Hi...well after reading on the site and looking at other sites.. I've decided not to breed my chins.. I only have the one female right now anyways.. and I have moved her into her own cage and out of the boys room. 
All I can do now is hope and pray she isn't pregnant..but if so.. I only had them together for 2 days.. the young couple that had them.. had them together for 4 months..so who knows.
I will enjoy my chins just as they are, I don't need to breed them.. everyone is happy the way things are..so why change it 

I do have a question though..the male that was housed with the female..should he be okay ? What should I do if he acts depressed or chooses not to eat for me ? These are things that worry me now.  Maybe just give him some time and he will adjust to the new situation ?  Do you think I will ever beable to  house him with another male ?

  Well everyone..I'm going to stick with the 2 names I picked out Abby and Jessie..But Jessie turned out to be a boy. A big boy..well a lot bigger than my other 3 chins. He was purchased at a pet store a year ago in May..so he might be going on 2 yrs old ,, or around there somewhere. And like Debbie said..I also think he is a hetero beige, in person , he looks more beige then the grey ..and he is exactly like my little beige male I already have. They both have the exact same color and both have pink ears. I just love him..I can scratch behind his ears and his neck..he took a couple treats from me last night..and they absolutely loved their new home..Abby is really small..they said they had her for 3-4 months.,since she was just weened they said, she also came from a pet store. She is about the same size as my other 3 , that were all born in May.  I'm not sure if I should continue to house them together or if I should separate them until Abby gets a little older ?  I'm surprised nothing between them happened yet..or maybe it has and I don't have a clue about it... but I did see what I read about the tail thing during breeding going on last night..but Abby didn't want anything to do with it. I can't believe they thought they were both females.. I even checked right there in front of them when I picked them up.. it was really noticeable    that Jessie was a male. 

Please let me know what you all think I should do.. its very easy for me to separate them in the type of cage I have ( ferret nation )..I just don't know what type of reaction they will have not being together.  And if I did separate them for another 4-5 months.. how would I go about introducing them again ?   Or do you think I should just leave them as they are ?  I know she is just too small to have babies..and maybe that is why she won't let him .

 Yes.. I do believe I"m becoming a chinchilla adict   

 I left you some questions in my other post under Guestbook.  I have decided that I do want to breed them, so if you could give me any info you can..please do. I have read books and looked on the net.. but I would rather hear from someone with experience exactly how I should go about doing this.

I wanted to ask you Jo Ann.. what colors you would say these 2 females are ?   Like I had said above in my second post..the light grey one has pink ears.. and other female is darker with grey ears .  I have 2 standard males that are much darker then both of these females. I just wanted to know if they were standards also or another kind. What do you think ?

Thanks Jo Ann for your advise. I don't own the cage the females are in shown in the picture..that is the cage the young couple has them in. My cages I own are all the ferret nation cages.
 
I keep 2 males per cage now. The cages are the 2 level ones. If I have to in the future put the ladder up and make them into individual cages then I can. Is this something that I should do now ?

If I did choose to breed..when would I house a male and female together ?  Would it be better for me to house the females in another room ? Or are they okay in the same room with the males until they mature ? The chins I have were all born in May.. so they aren't very old.

If I did breed the females..I would just put the small mesh around the outside of the cage so the kits can't get out. Either that or purchase another cage with smaller wire.

Any other advise you can give me.. would be greatly appreciated. I just want to do the right thing. I don't want any of them to start fighting.

Hi again...I just wanted to post pictures of the 2 girls I'm picking up tonight. A young couple can't keep them because of the apartment they live in.  I don't know  how old they are , I can ask them tonight to see if they know. Looking at the pictures..they still look young. What do you guys think of their colors...are they considered just standards ?  I have 2 standard males that are a lot darker then them. I'm naming them Abby and Jessie.  This will make 5 chins so far. I just love them.

Thanks..I think they are to... I don't have them yet.. I'm getting them tonight . I'm getting them from a young couple that can't keep them anymore because they moved into an apartment building that doesn't allow pets.  I will have to ask them tonight where they got them, how old they are ( if they know ) , by the pictures.. they still look young. One is a light grey with pink ears, the other looks to be a little darker with grey ears..I can't wait to get them. This will make 5 chins..I will be getting number 6 on Aug 14 , he's a white with some grey on him, and number 7 is a maybe.. I'm still waiting on the breeder to decide if he wants to keep her or not...I'm hoping he doesn't.. she is a very pretty girl that is also white with some grey. I can't wait to get pictures of everyone for you all to see.
