It is not recommended to put chinchillas in a ball. When they run inside a ball, they bend their backs in a weird position and it could be bad for their backs. It also traps heat inside the ball as well. It is best to let your chinchilla run around a tidy place (ex. bathroom) and keep an eye on him/her.

When I first got my chin, people there never say anything about not using one of the other so I don't think it's such a big deal..? As long as you don't give it water that are not purified. Distillation is one of many way to purify water. But purified water might have different minerals that naturally exist in the water. They are both the same except one have minerals and one don't. Hmm maybe someone will have a complete answer. I also have a similar question...I give my chin Aquafina water, and people said aquafina is tap water...so should I keep giving him aquafina or no?

That's what I am wondering, aquafina is purified water, I doubt it contains high levels of chlorine like in tap water (depends on where you live) or fluoride.

Some argue that "distilled water is "too" clean and contains no minerals like purified water do" but there are also some that pointed out that "your chinchilla get most of the nutrients from their daily diet (pellets/hay) and the nutrients from the minerals found in water is unnecessary"

I am leaning towards adding 1/3 part of Fiji water(For the minerals) to 2/3 part of distilled water... Does anybody have a "correct" answer? or at least one that really points out the pros and cons of types of water and which one should I provide my chins with?

A quick search on the inter-web gets mixed results of:

"NEVER USE DISTILLED WATER"
and
"DISTILLED OR PURIFIED ONLY"

My chins have been drinking distilled water for as long as I could remember.. so what type of water should I give my chins? Purified? Distilled?

i use to put the hay rack outside the top shelf of their cage and they loved to pull out the hay and make their own "bedding of hay" and pee on it  lol... now i have it down at the bottom of the cage because i don't want their ledge to be soaked with pee.

one of my chin does this quite often, she has a specific spot as well. she also likes to sleep with her head hanging off the ledge or tube and just let her head hang mid-air  however, she looks so comfy and relaxed

chinchillas' ears act as an outlet for heat (remember chins dont sweat so they cant dissipate heat the way we can). after a few "energetic" playtime minutes, you will see their ears start to turn red. I usually encourage my chins to return to their cage and rest after i notice the veins in their ears turn red and very noticeable. 

as for the folded ear, i can't really comment on that because i never been encountered with that sort of problem, but i am sure a few other on the board can help you answer that question. I would get in contact with whoever had the chin first and ask about the ear (how it happened), just to get an idea.

My chinchillas are very very picky about hay, whenever i fill the hay rack, i can find about 50% of it "dug" out of the hay rack and not eaten, most of it is the stem of the timothy which doesnt really seem tasty, however, i have never found the leafy part or the flowerhead left on the ground at all! 

Are your chinchillas picky about hay and what parts of hay they eat? Does your chinchilla extremely enjoy the flowerhead, leafy parts of the timothy hay?

I've made the switch from Oxbox hay to Alfalfa King's Timothy Hay because I feel like Alfalfa King's hay is so much better in quality. I am not saying that Oxbox hay quality (nutrition wise) is inferior when compared to Alfalfa King's but however, i do feel that there is some problem to Oxbox's quality control as of late. For example, I've found that inside A.King's there are much less "dust" at the bottom of the bag and it comes in mini bale bags (4 lbs) which makes it easier for me to "serve" the hay and i make less mess when handling the hay (that's not the big issue, but please read on )...

 About a month ago (before i made the switch), while i was about to get more hay from the oxbow bag (about half way done with the bag), I noticed something different, something that didn't appear like hay, so i dug in the bag with my hand and i found a "huge" feather inside the bag.. needless to say I was pretty puzzled on how something like the would happen to a name company such as oxbow. this might be a "freak accident" and i might be the only one that this have happened to, but needless to say, i was pretty upset by this incident. That was why i decided to give the new brand a try, and my chins seems to be more in love with Alfalfa king's hay than oxbows.

HOWEVER, if i ever somehow ran out of A. King's hay and i can't get more of it for some reason, i would go with Oxbow with no questions asked.

extra question about timothy hay..
does your chinchilla enjoy the flowerhead part of the timothy hay?

one of my chinchilla seems to zone out from time to time, she just tilts her head looking at one spot and not do anything at all.. i figured that just how she was because after my other chin bumps into her, she just gets right back up and tilts her head again and sits there. I don't think its anything serious that you have to worry about, but maybe someone else here might have a better answer because i really didn't answer your question  . Just from what i've noticed from time to time.

Quick question for those who might have noticed..
Do chinchillas dream?

Right now its about 8 in the morning and both of my chins are asleep, i am on my laptop just surfing the net and all of a sudden one of my chin barks twice and wakes up for about ten seconds, then she lays back down into her comfy fleece covered tube and goes back to sleep. It was weird but it was so cute
