Q & A / Whats ok?
« on: April 29, 2011, 08:16:04 AM »
I'll probably be heading to the pet store today. I wanted some opinions on whats good and and not so good. Like a hammock, is it a good idea? I know chins chew anything. I know plastic items aren't good. I took out the silent spinner wheel that came in the cage. It has plenty of chew marks. I don't think the previous owners attatched it to the cage. Instead of an igloo i bought a ferret ball that tubes can attatch to but no tubes. Some privacy but still well ventilated. Thats what the chins sleep in at petco. Thanks for any input.

He's upstairs now in my bedroom. Thats the coolest room. Plenty cold w/ the a/c on. I bought a thermometer that shows humidty too.

I know they don't sweat. I'm gonna try to get my husband to put the other a/c in. I feel so bad he's stuck in the basement.

Q & A / Fan to cool
« on: April 26, 2011, 06:59:22 AM »
I have my chin in the basement until my husband puts the a/c's in. My Husbands been sick the past few days and doesn't do much. I'd really like to bring my chinchilla up so he can see me more. I go down to see him 3-4 times in the evening. I have a chin-chiller for him. Would a small fan help to keep cool at least at 1 of his 3 tiers.Maybe where he sits the most. The little fan has 3 speeds so i'd think low would be best? The room he'll be in doesn't have direct a/c but the 2 adjoining rooms will in the next week or so. Thanks for any advice..

No i don't let him run around. I have the dust house right outside his cage and he hops back in when he's done.

Ok thanks. Is it ok to have his dust bath right outside the cage?

I have a chinchilla that i got from craigslist. He's not totally scared so thats good. I'm having trouble getting him to come to me which i know can take time. He'll take some food from my hand. Is there a trick that could help besides treats? He's pretty much a rescue since he was being neglected.

I just recently rescued a gray chin. I'm working on getting him to let me hold him. He was being neglected.
